I need to remove the air cleaner platform in my 71 Ghia. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it without destroying it? There are quite a few spot welds holding it down.

Thanks,
TCK

Drill out the spot welds. Cold chisel it off.

You can try to drill the spot welds out but it's pretty hard to do with the curve of the platform in your way.
I removed mine but hammering a really thin (and hard) chisel-type of tool between the body and the platform. The issue I ran into was most of the time it would pop the spot weld loose but sometimes it would start tearing the actual body panel underneath. If you use this method just be cautious and when you don't feel the spot weld pop after smacking it a few times, try a different angle and hit it that way. The more welds you pop the easier it gets. I had mine out in about 30 minutes.
My tool was a leftover from my aircraft mechanic days. Not exactly sure what it is called but I used it to hammer between hard to reach rivets and it would cut them easily.

There's a special drill bit for drilling out spot welds. I used it on my Ghia.

Tough job due to the angles, and you may have to do it from underneath.

Cut the 2 angle flanges so you can bend it up. Drill it out , bend it back and weld up the slots.

A finger sander like this would probably work well, they're great for this type of spotweld.

I've got one of those tools and it would eat a pretty big hole in the stand base before it would free itself from the spot weld. Hopefully he got it off using the chisel method, to me it's the least invasive and would make it easy to reinstall if someone wanted to (I kept mine).
