|
|
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum area and would like to start in. I have a few projects going and would like to start a build thread. Here is my 1965 Double Cab that I got a few months back and we started working on it about three weeks ago. It is starting to move along and wanted to share. If there is anything you see that I am doing wrong please let me know.
So this is how I bought it. Someone blasted it then let it sit for some time. I took it back to the blasters to get it cleaned up.

Congratulations on joining the "Double-Cab" club! They are the best! I'm restoring a '59 DC right now, and they are the coolest old Transporter in my opinion. You seem to have a very solid and fairly rust free one... Stay focused and stay on it. You will have to pay special attention to sucking out the sand from every little crevice and crack prior to primer and paint, so get a nice, powerful shop vac... Congrats!

X2 on the sand thing. My previous bus had been bead blasted with plastic pellets and even after a thorough cleaning they would still show occasionally coming out of body crevices, etc.
That front floor looks really solid, definitely a nice DC project to start with. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

I hope that sand or crushed walnut shells wasn't the media used.
Years ago, I used a pressurized blaster to shoot sandblasting sand all over the top and underside of the cargo floors on my 1958 bus. Later, I decided to rip everything out (inner and outer rockers on each side, outriggers, jack supports, cargo floor halves, and cross members) and install new parts. Beneath the bus, there was a beach. Sand had gotten into all of the "sealed" panels, which is not good. Good luck. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |

Sorry I haven't uploaded for a time but I have been working. These pics where from July 30th so almost a month old. I will try to get caught up. Here is some pics of the new metal going in.
Yes that is how much dirt came out of the rear outrigger. They didn't look bad but were questionable and man I am happy I replaced them.

Ok now it is painted with two coats of epoxy and two coats of primer.
This Saturday it took all day but got it seam sealed with Fusion 123EZ two part sealer.
All the seams have been primered again and now it is being sanded down for final paint.
It is taking longer then I thought but that is because we started on a 60 DC Should I post that one too? |

Factory color is pearl white and I'm going with that.
Completely rebuilt tranny just came in from German Transaxle of America
Just waiting on Nate from Wagenswest for the rebuilt stock front beam and it will be rolling again soon. Of course after we paint under the bus.

Well we are getting closer and closer. We have painted the engine area and where the gas tank goes. Also installed the rest of the bed of the truck. Next up is final paint under the bus and interior.
If anyone is interested in buying this DC when it is done let me know.
