Somebody know if the 113 501 331A cv joint fit our Thing?
I can't find which application this part number is for.
Thanks

CV Joint, IRS Type 1 and 3, GERMAN, 113-501-331 are usually GKN/Lobro brand CV Joints.
These joints are for Beetle, Superbeetle, Ghia, and Type 3s.These CV Joints are capable of 12 degrees max angle.

The VW THING (Type 181s) uses a Type 2 (Bus) CV Joint, which is a higher-angle joint, it is is capable of 17 degrees of angle. The next CV Joint in line is the Type 4 CV Joint, which is Type 2 and THING Size, but is capable of a 5 more degrees of angle for a whopping 22 degrees of angle! And then the hard core guys use the Porsche 930 CV Joints, which is bigger again for even more power handling, and it handles a 25 degree angle!

This info is from Aircooled.net Hope it helps you.

U.S. delivered VW Things came from the factory with the Type 4 CV joint part number 113 501 331 D.

For a 181 you need the "D" the "A" is for the Bug which requiers a less steep angle as explained earlier.

I just double checked the parts manual, and it calls for the "D" for ALL 181's with CVJ

There is no interchangeability between a Beetle CV joint and a Thing joint as they mate to different size flanges. That a VW part number has the same 9 digits but a different suffix in no way implies the parts are even similar in appearance or size.
