I have a 1960 convertible bug. Still all original and running a 6 volt system a few months ago my battery seemed to be getting weak. I replaced the battery and was able to drive it. Now I get in it and I have no power. I replaced the battery agin and now all my electric works but it won't turn over I get nothing. I replace the egnition and starter also replace the positive and negative battery cables. Still nothing not a sound when I turn the key completely dead.
I want to take it to bug o Rama please any ideas?
The battery is new!!
I am a bus guy so I am not framilyer with the bug. I am only seeing 4 fuses for lights. Is their more? _________________ Gas, Grass or Ass ? No one rides to the show for free!! |

double check your starter wiring, ground strap from trans to chassis, also check your headlight switch connections.
theres 8 fuses- 4 by speedo to 4 left of gas tank. _________________ 1960 6 volt sedan- 1978 adventurewagen

The power comes from the battery to the headlamp switch, then to the fuse box and ignition switch. A dirty contact on the headlamp switch terminal can mess up your whole car. |

Ok I found the fues by the gas tank. It seems someone painted over the fues box and fuses. I changed the fuses out and removed the paint from the terminals. I got all the lights working but still won't start or even want to turn over. I checked the Trans strap and head light switch. All complete. Anything else I can try.

You need to trace the power. Maybe start at the starter and work back. Might help to have someone try and start it while you check with a voltmeter. Here is a 1960 pic from the samba.
