I made a trade a while back with ALL of my various aquisitions for this little beauty. Not sure of where she came from, but she is in pretty damn good shape. Only major issues are the bottom of the driver door is rusted out, passenger door pillar has some rust issues, driver heater channel cover has some rust through, but structurally sound. Immediate plan is to do a pan swap to an already prepped 61 pan, fix the structural rust, all new brakes, buff the shit out of that OG paint, get her running and ride the hell out of her! My first runner in 15 years!! HELL YEA!!! On too the pics!
Those are the OG seat covers under there!!
And so the work begins!
New brakes, hard and soft lines. Sweet pan with adjustable front beam and lowered two clicks in the rear!
Almost there!!!
Together at last!!!
Sitting just right!
More to come....

LOL! I do too! This is the one I showed you at the Tannihill Show. My goal is to try and have her ready to roll at the Vintage Bikes and Dubs (if it still goes on). If not, she will be at home in Georgia by November! |

Got a little work done on her this week. New ignition, cleaned up all the wiring (there was a bunch if useless crap hiding under there), tank installed, fuel line hooked up (sending unit cable snapped putting it back together though), and the og interior put back in. Tried to get her started yesterday, but the battery I got was completely dead and she wouldn't even turn over. Got frustrated and called it a day.
On another note, my buddy mark rebuilt the passenger pillar and it looks sweet! He is pretty damn good with a welder. He told me that since I have to work this week, he should have her ready for pick up by Wednesday or Thursday. It could be a reality that I have my first running/driving/stopping beetle since I was in college. Can't wait!!! She is still dirty as hell and needs some deep cleaning but she is such a sweet ride!!! Will update as the week unfolds. |

Got her running and stopping today!!!! Man what a great feeling. Turns out the problem the whole time was a busted post on the battery. Luckily, it was under warranty and we just swapped it out for a new one. After that, she started right up. I do have to replace the fuel pump, dist cap (cracked almost in half), and plug wires, but luckily those are all minute problems. All lights work except for one real tail light. Still have to figure out the wipers, but that will come later.
Now on to a survey for all you peeps out there. Want to get your opinion on rim color combo. I have narrowed it down to two combinations. You tell me what you think (keep in mind, this is a rough in and not perfect, also I will have the anthracite to match and not just grey primer)...
Black outer/Grey inner
All black

In my opinion, i would not go with all black, but would go with the two tone in the original colors of (center) L464 Slate and the (outer) L471 Stone beige. The original wheel combo combined with the og paint would look killer. _________________ WANTED: Henry Veale Santa Rosa plate frames

SHE IS HOME!!! After what seems like forever, I finally have my car in my posession. I went and picked her up Thursday night and brought her home. Before bringing her home, I had to change plug wires, fuel pump and brake sensor. Ran out of time and couldnt put the deck lid on or install the e-brake handle (honstly forgot that one).
After getting her home, I had one day to get her cleaned up and ready for her first show at Airkooled Kustoms Bug's N Brats. Luckily my mom was off for the day and spend most of the afternoon friday cleaning the inside. She did a great job and the OG interior still looks pretty good. A little rough around the edges, but overall very nice.
The idea was to install the deck lid before we got to the show, but whoever owned the deck lid before braised the hinges in and they were off by about 1/4" and could not get it on. Oh well, I'll deal with that later.
I can not express how happy I am to finally have another beetle in my posession! Friday night, I just drove her around town with the biggest grin on my face. Today I went and ran some errands in her and had the greatest time. Still have a lot of kinks to work out, but it feels so great to finally have her in my driveway!
Now onto the pictures...
Pulling out of the garage on her maiden voyage.
And we're off!
Behind the wheel.
Please note the shit eatin grin!
Home safe!!!
Our first show!!!

One happy man!

Long overdue update....
Well it seems as though its been a while since I updated this thread so here goes. Here are some of the things I have done in the past few months since moving here....
Getting some cleaner wax help from the kids.
Tore out all the old tar board and falling down headliner. Wire brushed all the surface rust and put a coat of rusty metal primer on her.
Sprayed a coat of Wolfsburg west anthracite grey over everything.
Took out all the old door panels and decided to make my own.
Turned out pretty good I thought.
How she sat before YUB show.
On the track!!! |

New goodies that the Aircooled Airheads helped me put in.
Drop spindles and a BKR custom narrowed beam.

Since we finally got her running and stopping this weekend, I figured I'd update my thread. This front end was not for the feint at heart. First off, none of realized that early drivers side tie rod ends are crimped on and can't be reused. I had to order them from Gary and with my luck, after specifically asking for both sides of the short tie rod (one being RH thread and the other being LH thread), I got in two right hand thread tie rods! so luckily Eric brought over some spares he had. Only problem is the LH thread one had the steering damper on it so it was too long. In the great spirit of VW ingenuity, we cut off some of the threads and made it work! Still need to do some tweaking of the alignment, but it is pretty good. Let me tell you guys, Eric (fluxcap) is the guru of front ends!! He brought over some old school McGiver contraptions!!! Worked like a champ!!!

These are the specs that I am running right now...
2-3/4" BKR narrowed adjustable beam with shock towers (only adjusted down about 3/4 of the way)
2-1/2" drop drum spindles
175/65 in front |
