Trans removal question

I,m rebuilding an old gazelle kit car built on a 68 frame i pulled the mtr to overhaul it and noticed the trans is leaking and the driveshaft boots are torn. I'd like to reseal the gear box while the engine is out. The problem is theres no access to the shift shaft coupler, the shaft is shortened and i think its under the drivers arm rest which is glassed to the floor pan. Can you pull the trans with the shift shaft connected to the trans by removing the shifter? I ordered a manual but it has't arrived yet.

No you can't assuming it has all the correct parts up at the shifter.

There is a bushing and collar at the shifter end that support the front of the shaft and you wouldn't be able to pull the shaft thru that support without damaging things.

Just drill a hole in the glass, the person who built it should have done that anyway. Just like a stock bug, you need an access door at that location.
