the Boss was picking up our daughter from Collage today, she was sitting at a red light, and the guy next to her decided he needed to turn right. I was on the phone with our daughter, and all of a sudden there was a scream, the sound of a VW horn, and my wife's voice saying a few things that would make a salior blush....
thank God noone was hurt
thank God it wasn't worse
amnd Thank God Almighty I wasn't the one driving!
pic in my gallery.
looks like I'll be finding out expensive Ghia fenders are.... _________________ '72 Karmann Ghia Coupe (the Boss's) |

That looks nasty. FWIW I'd let a body and fender shop do the repairs unless you're looking to pocket some of the $'s in your own labor.
Why didn't you just post the pics here?

Yeah, if you can't even post pictures here, you definitely don't have the attention to detail to do proper body work. I kid. I kid.
Sorry about the accident and best of luck with the repair. Most of us have been through this situation at one time or another with our VWs. I had a similar thing happen to my '69 coupe about 20 years ago. I ended up buying a used fender from House of Ghia and having a local VW specialist body shop cut and weld on a new fender. _________________ 1966 Karmann-Ghia convertible |

OK...Everett has made it super easy to post pictures in your forum entries. The "Forum code" string appears to the right hand of all the picture summaries in your gallery. Just click in the box and "copy"...then "paste" the copied string into your forum post. Simple.
P.S. Everyone who has posted pictures to The Samba Galley will find a "Gallery" icon at the bottom of every forum post they make. They will also find added to the "Gallery" drop-down list in the "Navigation Bar" at the top of the screen, a link entitled "My Photos". _________________ John.

John, since you have more influence with Everett than anyone else here, could you please ask him if he can make changing a damaged fender on a Karmann Ghia a super easy copy and paste affair?
Thanks.

If the at fault party is properly insured, let them make you "whole" again. The damage is not too bad and thank goodness your family is ok. Insurance companies will try to total the car. Hold your ground and tell them to fix it. If not, have them cash you out, keep the car with a clean title and use the check to get the car fixed and add a few extras. Insurance companies use very expensive apprecial methods. _________________ 67 Ghia coupe, Retired military.

for the advice. The adjuster came Friday. hope this doesn't take too long.
There's no way this car will be totaled. I drove the 18 miles home, and aside from the tire rubbing on a sharp right turn, the car drove as good as it ever did. It looks worse than it is. _________________ '72 Karmann Ghia Coupe (the Boss's) |

Whether or not the car is functional has little to do with it being considered a "total loss" - unfortunately the cost of repairs exceeding the "market value" of the vehicle is all that's necessary.
I doubt that is the case in this instance, though.
Good luck with it all, and remember if you don't like what the insurance company is offering you can always fight to make it better.
It may require you doing some extra leg work like getting several quotes from reputable shops, or looking up recent sale prices of similar vehicles, but would obviously be worth the effort if necessary. |

I'm not sure where in Ohio you are, but there is a VW specific restoration shop in Lima. The name is Vintage Metal Werks. You can pm me for contact info. |
