I am not sure that Cessna 140's have CV joints, what did you say you were working on again? |

come on fellers. duck tape and bailing wire makes everything look fancy and special. Also 944 rear arms and brakes are a nice mod. |

They connect to your heater box levers (if you still have heater boxes). They are controled by the little handle on the passenger side of your emergency brake. If you don't have heater boxes then you can remove them from the parking brake end. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

When I move my heater levers at the parking brake the flaps open and close. So would those cables even be for heater? |

When you move the levers, the one that says heat- defrost will move the flaps inside the car. The lever that says temp will move the cables to the engine. |

I would bet a pic of what you are talking about would solve your issue in a matter of minutes. |

Review page 126 of the Parts Manual available in the technical section. That will give a better idea of how the cables are ran and how they work.
The heating levers work exactly as they do an a Beetle. Passenger side lever controls the amount of heated air coming out of the rear heater boxes. Driver's side lever controls the direction of the heated air (Cabin or defrost) _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Great Picture. I need cable #4. It broke off on one side. Does anyone have the part number or the name of the cable for me to find?
Thanks _________________ Brian

Permit me to help you help yourself.
(Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, and feed him for a lifetime).
Go to the top of this page and find the tab "Technical"
Under that tab, select "Owners Manuals"
When that page loads, look down the page for "Thing" and under that, select "Owners Manuals / Parts Manuals".
When that page loads, look down the page to "Parts Manual" and select that.
When that page opens, look for the link "Thing Parts Manual - PDF" and open that.
This is an invaluable tool for Thing Owners that all should have in their collection. Inside this document, go down to the 126th page to find the picture that is shown in the above post. Then go to the next page (page 127) for the parts list for that page. Look for item #4 to find your part number and description that you are looking for.

Couldn't have said it better myself. No, really,.....
However, in all fairness.
I seriously doubt that the 181 cables are still available. You may be able to use a set of Beetle cables and modify them to fit. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

TTS has a listing for this item:

Those are standard heating cables that go back to the heater boxes. I was referring to the defrost cables (P/N 181711713). I don't see why you couldn't modify (shorten) 133711717 and turn it into a 181711713) _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Thanks for the directions on how to find. Easy Peasy, sometimes once you know. This will help in most cases, but I need Part 4 which on the diagram 181 711 713 cable for footwell heating, rear. Will part number 5 work? Is the one end the same and just cut the other end off?
Is there a beetle cable number that someone else has used? ie 111 711 713A?
Thanks _________________ Brian

I've never had to do that yet but it seems like an easy modification to shorten a 133711717 into a 181 711 713. Let us know how it works out. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |
