This will be a 1 year how to build thread ... .. I was looking into setting up a very rough 68 bug that a friend had given me (no title ) so I could go camping in it..There are several threads on specialty items made to do this....THEN ! 1ghia posted a photo of a sedan delivery made out of a bug and part of a bay window bus...I already had the bug ..so how hard could this be...Located the bay window parts I needed cheep ....then I found a powdercoated chassis that came with a free 66 bug attached and the title...I have a sweet little finished 63 three fold rag to get parts in so this might take a while ....So sit back;relax and enjoy the show.
.P.S. if this isn't your thing ;please move on quietly to the next post...I do this stuff because I enjoy a challenge ....I'm 62, semi retired and get bored sitting around the house.....I have 5 tiny photos to work from..... I want a camper that is different....come back next year and say HI
The powder coated chassis as I first saw it (with free titled 66 on top )
Look what followed me home
Put a notice on samba yesterday that I didn't need the back half of the bug...samba member coming sunday and we start cutting..His 66 gets package tray and whole peice from the firewall back _________________ 63 two fold rag

And here are a few of my favorite images of the delivery in service.
and it seems that a Samba member Type81 has more pictures of it and apparently it was from the swedish magazine "bilsport" by Mattias Larsson

Thanks Duane for the extra photos !....Now I know I can do this just like a puzzle..find the pieces...make them fit
Can anyone tell me the dimensions of an oval window front windshield....I'm trying to figure out why he changed front windshield frame....Any Ideas???
..Maby he just wanted an oval dash;
Are the doors off an oval too ?....Might be a different color after fixing the rusty door in the early photos......vent window frames changed from shiny to black _________________ 63 two fold rag

Looks like the base car is a 62 or 63 (flat gas tank, hood hinge springs). They may or may not be oval doors. Ice pick door handles continued to '59. You can also you can install ice pick handles on '60-64 doors. |

So, it's already been done, and chances are you're not gonna top that one. Why not just build a nice bug...they never go out of style, ya know. _________________ © CJ Industries, Inc.

HI ! It turns out that the reason he changed the dash and the doors WAS only because he wanted it to look like an original oval...
....Duane found a blog on the original build.
..I will be keeping the 66 windshield and dash on this build and use an upright 1600 dual port that I have _________________ 63 two fold rag

So with that logic why build a bug at all? They've already been done over and over and over and over and you may never top what's already been built........ Why not just build a car YOU want regardless of if its been done or not ? _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"
