I no longer get to spend time in Honolulu, but when I did, it was the Rainbow Drive In just off Kapahulu Ave. The mixed grill plate was killer, both figuratively and most likely literally. And right up the street on Kapahulu, early in the morning when they're fresh out of the fryer, malasadas from Leonard's Bakery. God I miss the islands. |

Our favorite spots after years and years of going out:
Jose Tejas in Woodbridge, NJ for Tex - Mex
Greek Town Gyros in Rutherford, NJ for Greek
Dallas BBQ in New York City for chicken and ribs
Avenue East in Cranford, NJ for Chinese / Asian
A sentimental favorite, people either love it or hate it, but my father introduced me to it 45 years ago, "Spain" on 13th Street in Manhattan
And if you are in Old San Juan, you must not miss Manolin's Restaurant. Cheap, good and very popular with locals.
And then here's my seafood explorations along the Jersey shore:

Oh nice.. more places to hit in Jersey...
and
I've been watching and lurking around your Jersey Seafood Stand thread.. I enjoy it.
Hopefully next summer... Ill be trying those Coconut Crusted Scallops.... They sound delicious

The Boondocks Fishery in Red Bank New Jersey, is as near perfect a seafood shack as I could ask for in terms of location. Right next to a park, on the water by the docks, with parking close by.
The 1 1/2 pound of steamers were very good, and their coconut-encrusted scallops came with a tangy sweet-chili-and-jalapeno dipping sauce that was tremendous. But you only get 4 scallops. And the "lobster roll" was lobster salad in a hot dog roll, for $18. Way, way overpriced.
If you stick to the steamers and the more reasonably priced sandwiches, and bring your own beer, you will have a very nice time at the Boondocks.

If you are ever in St. Louie here are some of my favorites:
The inexpensive:
Concord Grill
Lots and lots of big thick burgers on the menu and just generally good food.
SoCo Gyros and Deli
The name says Gyros, but they have much, much more delicious greek food like salads of every variety, i. e. pasta salads and olive and cheese salad. It's not a pretentious either since it is set up like a deli.
Protzel's Deli
Yummy Jewish specialties.
The expensive:
Mangoes
Upscale Peruvian food. No dish on the menu disappoints and the drinks are amazing too.
Vin De Set
Some of the best food in St. Louis imho, by a very creative chef. Also if you can catch the Sunday brunch (which is on a rooftop in good weather) it is amazing.
Bailey's Chocolate Bar
This is a place to go for drinks and dessert. Some of the most exciting chocolate martinis (10 or 12 different ones on the menu iirc) you will ever try and killer deserts too. They have some non-dessert items too which are yum but not substantial. _________________ air-cooled or nothing for me

BTW i think it would be great to make sure you put up the address's so we can find these places |
Sure, not a bad idea,
Go for it if any of you want to post addresses as well.
With the ease and availability of the mobile internet and mapping systems.. I would think once you submit a name for a particular named spot, it will give of guide to the address. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Ok.. no problem just asking..
Last time I was up around Muncie/Fairmount. for the James Dean Festival and Duck Tail Run, I hit both Cindy's Diner and the Liberty Diner near Fort Wayne... they were good.. Maybe you can try those. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

X2!!
That burro is called the Ruben, on the menu it states it feeds 6. A few years back if 1 person was able to eat it they got it free. I guess too many "big" regulars ended that tradition.
Here are a few of mine:
If going to a Dodger game you have to get a "dip"

Like burgers and pie? Go to Pie and Burger in Pasadena

And the orangest chicken you will ever see.

Gone but not forgotten:
Jungle Style Chicken in old town San Fernando. Yes the one from Boys in the Hood.

My favorite lunch place back home is:
Cedar Grocery and Deli in Lafayette, LA. if you like Middle Eastern, they have great Kibbe, Tabouleh, Grape Leaves, Hummus, etc. Also, their Muffelletta (which was invented in New Orleans) is really fantastic. http://cedardeli.com/ _________________ Brian

Dang, that wooden burger actually resembles the one they serve!
Another must addition to this thread:
Original Pantry Cafe, Downtown Los Angeles.
Opened in 1924 and has never closed. There is no lock on the door. Even when they changed locations they opened the new location before they closed the old one. Legend has it that they have had never been without a customer in the restaurant with the exception of a few years back when the Pope's motorcade came up the street and everyone went out to look at the Pontiff. The last person out realized too late that they had left the restaurant empty but seeing as how they all returned to finish their meals I don't think that it really breaks the chain! Parking across the street, $2 with validation, a bargain in downtown!
