Westfalia Tow Hitch Ball Size/US Compatibility?

I searched and didn't find the answer to this. Is anyone aware of the ball size of a European (Westy) T3 tow hitch? Is it compatible with the US size(s)? My 1990 1.9 MTdi Syncro Westy has one installed. I am planning to rent a small U-Haul trailer but need to make sure I won't have any compatibility issues.

Also, I imagine the wiring will need to be modified for US sockets, but that is doable.

Any advice or mention of a previous thread about this is appreciated.

Works fine, apparently, but the thread reminded me that there is no provision for safety chains. I don't think U-Haul will like that...
