Rear apron looks great... About the only thing left mine could use. What is the procedure for getting that in? Lots of welding? I attempted to straighten mine out, had a few bumps and ripples... Lost the two exhaust arches. Debating on replacing mine. Also, seen a lot of guys have them removable... That's tempting too.

Replacing the rear apron was a big job but then I had to replace all the engine tin as well so that made things extra difficult. If you're going to replace the apron only, you'll need to drill out all the spots on the rear engine tin as well as cut the vertical welds that attach it to the side panels. Keeping the rear engine tin should make re-alignment quite easy as it will dictate the final curve. Good luck.

Working on the left front fender is a real challenge. As you can see from the photo there is no headlight bucket and the front face is pretty messed up. Here's an early shot of when I got the car
I cut away that fender and began to work on this replacement piece.
I have a new bucket that I'm using to try and mold the front opening and then I bought a piece from Sam in Spain to replace the whole opening. My plan is to get the overall shape correct and then weld the fender to the rest of the shell. Once it is in place then I will cut away all that crap around the headlight opening and weld in the new piece from Sam. The final step will be to replace the lower rear section with the piece I bought from Danny.
But first I'm traveling to Berlin so this will have to wait until I get back.

Hello Folks
I'm back from my month-long stay in Berlin - a fantastic city. I've returned to working on the KG and have a couple of photos and an update for those of you following this thread.
The left-front fender is in place and mostly complete.
It took some work, making the three sections fit together and fit to the shell. The front headlight section came from Sam in Spain, the lower rear corner came from Danny and the fender itself from another Canadian KG guy. At least this one had a fender lip whereas the one that am with the car had none. Here's a couple more:
And now I have a set of headlight buckets.
Gosh, almost like a real car.
At this point all the major work on the shell has been completed. There remain some small bits of welding in the engine compartment area. The final BIG item is to repair the truck lid which has a rotted lower section, something that seems typical to these cars.
Anyhow, it feels pretty good together the car to this stage - it certainly looks better than when I began this project.

Great work as usual. I'm really enjoying watching this come together, very inspirational. _________________ Air does not freeze. Air does not boil.

It is called heat shrinking and you need to do using a hammer and dolly to do it properly - check this out http://cid.vcc.ca/p1-dl/instructions/moodle/demo/demo-shrink.htm _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia
