After replacing so many head gaskets and dealing with catalytic convertor failures on 2.5 Subaru Foresters and Outbacks, so I've decided to convert them over to the uber-reliable 2.1 waterboxer engines from the vanagons. I'm taking orders for this fall.

That sounds great. If I were in your neck of the woods, I would definitely be bringing my Forester to you for a conversion.

I'm taking the crappy climate control out of my Audi URS6 and putting in a decent Vanagon rear evaporator unit to blow cold air on the rear seat occupants. That should leave enough space to install my Vanagon cassette/radio unit. Oh, and Westy swivel bases on my crap Recaro's too, for those really hot summer days when you might actually need cool air blowing at your face. I just need extensions for the steering wheel, pedals, and a really good mirror.
If needed, I can still install a WBX and gearbox in the trunk, but I would need to see the quick-release heads for fitment. _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

I'm seriously considering this conversion.
Even swapping back in my plastic coolant pipes because I worry about electrolysis too much. _________________ 86 Syncro|EJ253|Carat |

I will be fitting 13 inch wheels on my vanagon so I can have more tire options. The load rating is too high on all the tires I have seen. Takes all the fun out of driving the vanagon. |

I need to replace my starter, so I was thinking of just installing a 6 volt 1200 form a '56 Beetle with the provision for a crank handle. Much more reliable, and aerobic, too! _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

The Solar powered starter motor... I had to put it on the back burner, more importantly I've been working on a solar powered tanning bed for the top of my westy.

I just got a PM from the military, they're interested in my ideas for upgrading the engines in our Canadian Sea King helicopters... I might need more engine cores!
Jeff.
PS: I'm enjoying this immensely. |
