I recently found out that DRD is no longer in business and has joined with EMPI. Since Im not sure whos CNC port design EMPI is now using Ill remove the DRD heads from the list on the next update The old sheets with flow numbers will still be in my gallery if anyone is interested.

With EMPI having their new head on the market Ive requested data several times with no reply. Ive heard that at SEMA they were saying that their heads are completely cast and machined in the U.S.A. Does anyone have any literature or data on these new heads?

Don't remove DRD from your list. The information is still usefull for people that do have his heads.

Empi bought all the CNC machines from DRD so they may still use his programs.

I know for a fact that they are NOT cast or machined in the USA.

They are CNC ported and assembled in the USA.

I read a FB post stating they are using the same foundry SCAT is using (not their chinese source). I originally heard they struck a deal with the foundry RevMaster uses for their heads so this usa claim is a new one for me.

EMPI heads now are available with the Shawn McCarthy CNC sideways D shape ports, AND the DRD design tri-ovaly ports.
Check out appletree they have pics of them all.

Don't know if that's temporary or what, but in any case it will be confusing.

Maybe EMPI will try to catch up to cb?
When I checked out the EMPI heads when they first came out, IMO, they were about ten years behind.

Were they the old Autolinea GO- series or these new castings like in the pics above?

I always thought that it was a bit strange that Autolinea made custom castings for both CB and empi but empi never had their own "044/GO4". Seems they cheaped out and just used the existing GO3 for their performance head offering. Thinking about it a bit, I guess the early 044 really didnt have any differences in the casting compared to the GO3/041.

They were as pictured above, empi's "own" casting, that was probably 3 years ago.

I don't have any pictures but just received my new CB 044 wedge port 42x37.5 CNC heads with port match intake manifolds and they look top notch!..my engine builder was very impressed with the quality of these heads. ..CB claims that they run cooler but time will tell? ...I will update later.

I love this thread, it lacks info tho. Can you please add a column that shows what sizes are good for what? I would love to know what the optimized head is for say a 1776, or 1679. I would imagine the same info would be helpful for the guys with the bigger displacement engines.
Of course I want the biggest ones they make, but they prolly wont work on a stock configuration.

Its great that a head can flow 200+cfm, but what do you need behind it? I am tempted to build either a 1776 or 1835cc sp motor, but don't want to screw up my sp heads by having them opened up and then not have enough volume to flow as much as it can.

Its more dependent on the top end/cam combo than the displacement. Smaller displacement can use the bigger heads but have to rev much higher to make use of them.

SP heads can only flow so much, Id get them ported and flowed then match the cam/carbs/exhaust to the application desired RPM range.

Even with "race" mods to SP heads they barely flow more than stock DP. Here is a good thread with SP flow upgrades, with a decent cam and compression they can be nice little engines.

Single ports are neat but they are very different far as HOW they breathe.
With your usual 2000cc+, dual idfs, ect, kind of engines, a lot of folks find that high velocity ports + wild cam makes a real fun street motor, so we are always looking for MORE, myself included!

but with SP it's quite the opposite.
You have to keep the cam duration short, and you almost can't port them too big. Stock DP intake is about 29mm, and a SP intake is about 27mm, but IMO they goofed, it really should have been the other way around.

What's a spigot? And what do you need to know about it?

I'm not sure what the "spigot" refers to either but it would be very useful to have type 4 head data in this thread too.
