A designer not a stylist.
Pretty damn good compared to other vehicles of that era. _________________ Tencentlife said,

I seem to remember during design it was nicknamed "Agua Ali" or I may be completely mistaken.
Official designation during design was EA162 _________________

I think it is a very attractive "design" - which many use to mean styling. It also give xlnt visibility from the driver's seat.
I was talking about it with an architect car buddy of mine (after watching Rush). He agreed and we both thought it looked a bit like a GG form.
Yes, the Cd is quite good for that era, not counting the Westy front "suck out" section for rooftop hauling. People often confuse drag coefficient with total drag. _________________ 1986 2.1L Westy 2wd Auto Trans. |

Yeah, I've heard that nickname too, but I think that was the nickname of the Wasserboxer engine during it's development.

I always thought the Vanagon's styling sign off was a mistake. That they had the new Vanagon in a crate to protect it from spy photogs. Then the senior staff arrived to sign off on it and nobody opened the crate. Definitely has that "box it came in" styling character.

I think engineered says it better than designed.

Sometimes I think "what the hell were they thinking?!" with certain things. I've only had my van for just over a year but the longer I have it the more I see the genius behind it. I personally love the look of it. And it is actually exceptionally aerodynamic for what it is especially the hardtoppers. |

The Vanagon was designed to use up as many parts that VW had laying around at the time, as possible.
You can tell by the finished product.
I truly love my converted and upgraded vans so much more than stock.
Build your dream van.
It is "easy" with all of the quality parts and procedures available today. |
