Here is a pic of the antenna on my 74 SB. I want to replace it but I can't find one like it. Is this a stock antenna?

My '74 Super had the exact same antenna. There was a cover piece that covered the screws so they are not visible. I could not find a replacement, so I welded the screw holes and changed it out to the style that is available.

Has anyone ever tried one of those retractable antennas? Do they fit w/o a problem? I'm thinking of going that route so I can use a car cover.

I have one on my '74 Super. Easy to install, looks good, and works great.

The retractable works on a standard and the early flat glass supers, don't remember if they work on a curved windshield...........I imagine it would.

Are you talking about power antennas?

Dunno how you'd go in a LHD with the fresh air box in the way but i had one in my RHD 1303 which has heaps more room and it was still a royal PITA to fit.

I had to remove the hood hinge to get it in there and with the lack of space for the motor the mast ends up at a funny angle leaning outwards

The antenna is not power operated. Have to push it down by hand. Mid America sells them for around $20.

Mine is just the manual retractable. I tried the power, but as you say, there just isn't enough room.

I never found a replacement that had the 3 screws. I ended up welding the holes shut and went with a manual retractable antenna.

My 1977 Super Beetle Convertible has the same antenna. I think they changed to this style in the last couple of years they imported Beetles in to the states.
