Here's our first part off the mold. Don't get too excited, we have a few changes to make. This mold is just a test, the actual part will fit and look much better. We're making progress!

Perhaps an option for a plug n' play wiring harness where you can use them as DRL or on/off switch using a blank on the dash... _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Great news! We have the led light figured out, and we just made a huge purchase for the first run of our new driving lights. They are called "TerraPodz"
We are proud to announce that we are using "KC Hilites" as our LED vendor.
You guys are going to love the amount of light that these things put out.
I have the first prototype on the Tristar right now, only one of them, and I can see pretty good without the headlights on, and remember that's only 1 light.

Here is the DRL bucket mounted without the LED and without the lens, in our test material. The actual parts will be black. They are paintable if you want to do that.

Since nobody is asking, I will. The pics don't really show in detail how the fog lights attach to the lower grille. It looks like there are two fasteners and the fog light casing sticks out more than the PZ one? Maybe to accommodate a better light behind? _________________ 1991 Westy auto w/ Peloquin TBD

The original uses the turn signal and the grill mounting screws. What we didn't like about the original was that they always break where they attach to the grill. This is a design flaw with stretching plastic when you vacuum form. The further you get away the thinner the part becomes.
We made the attaching points the same for the turn signal, but we are using plastic button screws to attach to the lower grill. It's a much stronger mounting part than the original. Our casing is actually smaller, it sticks out less than the original. The reason it looks odd now, is that we are not showing the lens nor the LED yet. Stay tuned, or check the web site.

I sort of, kind of, did not like those in the past. But, like Vanagons and 914s, which I thought ugly for years, the lights are growing on me. It is the function I like the most.
So I want some too......Send me my Paypal invoice, I will pre pay again!
FYI: I must be blind, I can not find more pictures:

Looks fantastic, though my dreams of having these as a single piece integrated with the lower grill are dashed. I figured it might be possible since the flares are so big. Shipping would be a pain, but man would it look good.

Very, very close now. we will be starting the group buy soon.
We will be selling a limited number of the light kits here on the Samba.
The reason for the group buy is to help with mold and production costs. In exchange for helping us bring this product to market, we will be offering a discount on the part and free shipping.
Terrapodz will be available at Vancafe and other vendors soon after the initial release, as well as our website.
We will have a better idea of cost very soon, stay tuned!

I'm assuming the beam pattern is similar to the originals, right? They're fog lights not driving lights?
Do you know the color temp on the LEDs?
I'm excited to see these in production! _________________ 89' Dove Blue Syncro Hightop |

Teaser pic!
Almost ready, check out the latest pic.

Here's the two versions, classic ( silver background ) and Blaque ( black )
[img][/img]
Not sure if we will be producing the black version yet, unless there is demand. I prefer the classic, Josh likes the black.

We are shooting for $250, Cost is slowly rising due to our not cutting corners about quality. We are using top notch materials to make this a durable part. I know you will all be impressed with the workmanship and quality.
Polycarbonate is a material used to make things bullet proof, the lens will definitely take a serious hit and not crack like the originals.
During testing we dropped an 8lb sledge on a lens from 5 feet, it did leave a mark because we glued a rock to the bottom of the sledge hammer, but there was very little damage. _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

How does the group buy work? By the way, I'd take the silver. Wouldn't it reflect better and therefore cast more light?

The classic (silver) does reflect a little more, not much. They are bright! _________________ Vanagon/Transporter flares here: www.terrawagen.com

Wow, these look awesome. Very clean! On the original PZs, I found the plastic housing to be the weak spot - poorly molded, poor fit, and easy to crack at the stress points (attachment holes). The lights themselves were actually quite good, putting out a bright useable beam that was low and wide. Hope these repros function as good or better. Nice work! _________________ -James
