What is the easiest way to install a new bushing without removing the drop arm. I have been trying all day to get that little sucker in there, it just don't want to go in. I have tried talcum powder, grease, liquid soap, nothing seems to work. The PO had a smaller diameter bolt and nut holding it in place, which wobbled around and tore up the bushing.
Any help wil be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all the help.

Great -and rare - question.

Any way to rig up a makeshift puller/compressor using a bolt, a nut, and two large washers? As you tighten the nut, the washers will pull towards each other and push the new rubber bushing into place.

At least it works great in my mind !!!

That's what I thought too.
It goes in just to were the drop arm tapers then the bushing starts to compress.

Well I finally got the bushing in. I tried Cussers way, and I tried 68IHscout's way, either one worked. What I ended up doing is sanding some of the bushing down used graphite for lubrication and with a little force it popped in.
But I do appreciate the help Cusser and 68IHscout offered.
Thanks again

Just incase anybody else is wondering how to do it, me and my dad used a ball joint remover/popper thing to compress it into place, worked like a charm!

I didn't have a ball joint remover tool. So I had to come up with a make shift tool. But I would like to get an assortment of pullers and other tools that would make working on these easier.
But half the fun working on these is busting your knuckles up.

I always use a chatter gun (air Hammer) with a valve guide bit with a large washer, shave a little off the bushing and Push it in.

The old bushing basically fell out. I started with the bolt and nut but when I loosened the nut the bushing just popped out.
Thanks for the link though, I'll hang on to it for reference.

Since that web site seems to be gone, I found the archive:

Scroll way down to the bottom.
