|
|
Just got a new 58 vert but I have a 64 top.
Will that work or do I have to have a 58 top?
What are the differences?
Thanks Rory |

Just off the top of my head, the main bow and latches are different. _________________ 60 Rock Grey Vert |

Take a look at Chucks Convertible Parts. The wood bows and top show 58-60 so it may not work but he would be the one to call. I got all my stuff from him and he was great to deal with. |

The 3 main differences I see, would be the Top Catch and Latch, Main Hoop Bow=$$$ and the rear window seal. You could live without the Main Hoop Bow as yours would be a metal one.(saves you $$) You would need to use 58' thru 60' Top Catch and Latches, Don't know if you have a Rear Window, but you would have to get all the bit's for that before you can decide what seals to get for it.
Keep us in the Loop. |

And the rear window for a 64 is larger than a 58. Its going to cost you, but you would be better off getting the correct top in the long run. Especially if you ever have to sell it. _________________ 60 Rock Grey Vert |

No, it is not. MODEL YEAR 1965 (from August 1964 onward) had a larger back window but, until then it was the same size.

If you use the entire folding top assembly from the 64 it will work just fine. The biggest difference betwen the 58 and the 64 are the change in the "main hoop" from wooden to metal after mid year 1960.

Andy are you slipping a little?
This is a Convertible... not a Sedan...
Convertible rear glass is one of those "Things" that didnt follow the norm..

Ok ok.. maybe not the "entire"... of course latches just bolt on...
Using the 58-60 latches on the 64 top with the 58-60 receivers on the body.. should work...
Never assume right...?
Good photo reference non the less.
We need to add a pair of 65-67' latches and receivers in the mix... for even more confusion...
I think (not 100% on this) the folding tops from 58-67 are all interchangeable, using the proper latching hardware.. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

a 64 top frame will fit the 58 if you use 56-60 top latches and catches, 58-60 header wood, 58-60 rear body wood, and 61-64 wood for remainder of top frame, with 58-62 rear window. most importantly a 58 top cover wont fit the 64 frame, you must use a top cover meant for a 64 frame. why do all this, theres 2 58 top frames on the samba now, have it shipped to you folded in a bicycle box via greyhound bus- cheap shipping. i bought one from florida this way and i live in california, was here in 6 days via greyhound _________________ Official 58-60 "Early Big Window" Convertible Thread & Registry
