|
|
So within 3000 miles I've had two oil pressure sensors/senders fail (mounted between pushrod tubes) they begin seeping oil luckily setting off my low pressure light. The first time the leak was pretty major while the second failure was slow but seeping none-the-less.
What is causing these sensors to fail in the manner they are?
Anyone else had this issue? _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsberg |

The cheap ones can really spew oil when they go bad. Better to spend an extra few bucks and get good ones...or leave the engine tin off to make the next replacement go smoother! _________________ - 83.5 Westfalia - 2.2 GoWesty "power"

If by oem you mean a Bosch sensor no its not. My first thought was of course "This is Chinese junk" after seeing where it was made.
I told the guy at O'reilly that I use 20 50 and he said that is why they failed, causing too "high" of pressure. Any validity to this? Has anyone had a sensor fail that failed attributed to heavy engine oil?
I agree oem would be better but two crapping out in just 3000 miles seems subnormal. _________________ 1984 Vanagon Westfalia Wolfsberg |

The German vehicle aftermarket parts scene is in complete turmoil right now, so we're going to see an ad nauseating amount of these types of parts failures over the next while. OE suppliers are our only hope right now, which is expensive, and we can't necessarily rely on them to remain a bastion of quality, either. The weight of the oil theory is totally bunk. _________________ Casey--
