Does anyone have any tips on removing the front doors. I have to take mine off for restoration work on my 73 camper. Would it be easier to remove the door pins? If so whats the best way of getting them out? The bolts are on there solid and I'm worried about stripping them. Any advice would be appriciated.Thanks.

The pins are one of those VW percularities. If you remove them you are entering a world of hurt.

The best way to remove the door for bodywork and painting is to unbolt the hinges from the body. Use pbblaster, kroil, whatever to get the bolts loose. Use the correct size socket, chean the heads of the bolts, etc etc etc.

Thanks for the advice. I kind of thougt removing the pins was a no no. I'll give liquid wrench a try and hope for the best. Since winter set in here working on the doors will be a good indoor activity. Roll on!!!

Do you seem any thread damage on the body mounted bosses? Try some loctite. I've starting to get in the habit of using it all over so I don't lose metric items that are a pain to find locally.
