|
|
Hi,
Has anyone any pics of a corvair motor in a split bus?
I`m particularly interested in ones that are running the original transmission so i can see how they`ve modified the engine to close flush.
I have a 63 bus which was imported to the uk last year which had a corvair motor in it. It`d been stood for 20-30 years but after running a 1600 for a few month, i`ve had a go at refitting the corvair back in as it had good compression, was rebuilt with a reverse rotation cam and was complete. I`ve pretty much got it all running again, but one of my final tasks is to get the engine lid to close properly if possible.
So, if anyone has pics of one in a split bus, that`d be great,
cheers, Mike |

as you can see above, i`ve offset the lid about an inch or so by using some hinge adaptors i made up.
I got hold of a scrap engine lid which is the same colour as mine luckilly
I was thinking of cutting out an opening behind the number plate and offsetting as possible, but i`d like it to look as stock as possible from outside.
The lid fouls on the alternator mostly. It also touches the dizzy vacuum can and fuel pump, but i can get round these by rotating the vac can and eventually converting to an electric fuel pump. |

My Dad and I put a Corvair engine and automatic transmission in a '67 bus back in '75. We did the transmission so my Mother could drive it. She never took to a stick shift. Wish I had some pictures of it, but I don't. As I recall, we were able to scoot the whole package forward so that the engine lid could close. _________________ I'm at the age were "fuck off", "fuck you", and "fuck it" answer most questions. |

Thanks - that makes sense actually if you used the corvair transmission.
My installation had been done using the original VW transmission and an adaptor. The adaptor is about 1 inch thick which makes the engine sit further back just that little extra. the engine lid would shut (just!) If it wasn't for the adaptor. |
