That's a beauty. I didn't notice this picture yesterday. Its funny how they appear to be less rusty on a monitor. This one could be my double |
Schwing,
this one is actually the "Westfalia Grossraum Holzpritsche mit Plane und Spriegel, logo'd too.
it came with a 7 foot hoop and canopy, and it has wood bed and gates, also logo'd.
but, yes, it looked much better from a distance _________________ regards

You guys do realize this is being built by the town drunk? Nonetheless I started work on some homemade pieces. I figured might as well try, and if it doesn't turn out then I can buy the metal.
This is my attempt at making a windshield frame.
First I found an old Thing door to scavenge the metal.
cut 2 strips
clamp it to the workbench
matching the profile
and Boom done. Just have to cut away some of the rotten metal, weld and also figure out the corners, we shall see!

You should save the ribbed sections of those 181 donor doors. They are perfect for sectioning into your Thing when doing rocker repairs. |

Sorry for the lack of updates here, been working on the single every chance I get.
Figured out those windshield corners:
Fitted and welded:
A pillar was rotten in an odd place, so as much as it killed me I decided to cut away a section of the nose to get to the repair. Here is the panel test fitted before cleaning the metal up:
Welded:
Treated with rust encapsulator from Eastwood:
Re-attaching the nose section that I cut out:
Had to fabricate a section below the turn signal that was rotten and probably the reason the a-pillar was soft.
Antenna holes gone. Might go without "radio" and just do satellite or stream. Or center antenna, no idea, just didn't like the holes.

Tunes are nice, but I'd rather look at a radio delete hole filler and listen to the sound of the engine and the sweet whine of a fully non-synchronized straight cut gear crashbox transmission or hear my gear reduction boxes sing to me. |

Good call Doug. I will tuck them away. I'm due to make a couple patches on the Thing this Spring.

Looking good schwing. Will this truck be a trailbasher? |
Thanks Stan. Absolutely a trailbasher. No clue if that means 2014 or 2015, this is a really rough truck with no engine. Baby steps _________________ Shadetree Westy
