Not a major update, most of what I have been doing is not picture-worthy. I seam sealed the entire chassis, treasure chest, engine bay, and wheel wells.
I also stripped the treasure chest door and primed.
I decided to order a Gerson "headboard" for the loadbed....the panel between the cab and the loadbed. It should arrive this week but won't get installed until after the load bed goes on. This week I plan to remove the old headboard and keep prepping exterior for paint. I decided the best approach is to bodywork everything, and then paint the grey and green practically in the same week (likely May timeframe TBD).
Seam seal
I feel like its sorta starting to take shape even though I have a ton of sanding to make it right

Body prep continues. I am getting real close to painting the commercial grey on the chassis and treasure chest areas. My goal is to prep the exterior body as much as possible before I get to that stage so I can minimize dust and overspray on those areas.
I decided to remove my load bed separation panel and also redo the corners around the tailight sections. I feel like this build has taken forever but I am really motivated to finish this thing THIS summer.
Picked up this vintage plate frame. My wife might kill me. Its the truck talkin!
This was oil canning and I wasn't happy with the tail light section I had made years ago.
Bought these laser cut sections but they were too small, so I made em bigger. Worked out great and WAY better than $650/side for new corners. I have a family to feed!
Dash is prepped and ready
Chassis is about 85% ready for final paint
Nose is gettin there too.

Wow I'm really behind on updating my thread. I have been working on this nonstop.
-Final coat on chassis (used Funky Truck's grey mix via NASON)
-Tons of blocking, tons. still not enough
-Painted backside of treasure chest doors
-Painted treasure chest
-Painted engine bay velvet green baby!
-Painted treasure chest doors
-Painted backside of loadbed panels
-Mounted loadbed panels (last one going on this weekend I hope)
Velvet looks different depending on lighting. These are the same panels.
Its hard to see in the pics, but I made some mistakes in prep, I might reshoot them.
Radio delete, funny how blue it looks against my overgrown yard
Painted backside of loadbed and now its getting installed.
I've had this loadbed for like 4 or 5 years so its already rusted. 2 years ago I sanded it down and ospho'd it. Vintage Gerson haha. Don't judge life happens
secret messages. we wrote all kinds of stuff only to be discovered by the next guy who restores this truck

Yes sir, exactly but I'm not complaining. Ok finished the 4th section and spent hours crimping the outer edge 180 degrees. My hands are real sore.
Separation panel/headboard is next.

Thanks man! I came up with a technique where I clamped a heavy piece of 14gauge steel on top of the bed and just used pliers and vice grips. I have 5 huge blisters cause I just kept working through the pain. The corners required trimming following glidekings technique because they are tough to crimp straight out of the box. _________________ Shadetree Westy

Have you tried Knipex pliers? They're designed with a 10X mechanical advantage over regular pliers.

Funny that’s what I used! It’s the vice grips that hurt.
Maybe I’m a wimp.

No, no! While those are nice pliers, the ones I'm talking about have a lever action mechanical advantage and will give up to 10 times the force of your pliers with the same pressure on the handles. They really are amazing.
Here they are side by side. The Pliers-Wrench has that rounded fulcrum on the jaws which gives it the mechanical advantage.

Bodywork continues! Slowly going through each panel blocking using guide coat powder. Once I feel like everything is flat I will lay down the Evercoat Slick Sand and block that down. I've never used a guide coat before, definitely a good idea.
Took a break from sanding to build wood slats out of Brazilian Ipe. My neighbor was a huge help in this project. I changed the profile so its a bit flatter and more of a hexagon since I figured it would be more durable.
Very close to painting the cab, but before I do that I have to replace the heater angel and install the rest of the freshly painted heat tubes. My angel was real bad due to mice moving into the heat chamber.
So the spare heat angel I picked up must be for a 67 since the tabs were different. I bought a nose this past weekend that ended up having the correct heater angel, so last night I removed it and prepped it for paint.
I think its going to be a bar when I am done the truck
The one on the top is the new one. I now have 3 velvet green heater angels haha, weird collection.
Hopefully my next post will be showing some green in the cab.
