Hi All, I have this headlight and have been looking to see what year it is. It only has a number and no letter, looks like a driver side with the drain hole on the bottom. Thanks for any help, Albert

For the black headlight:
Date code listing on the site
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=279505
"52" as the date code is not valid though, that is strange.
the number is usually the week of the year so I wonder if that's the 52nd week of the year but the year stamp was not printed by accident.
Since it's black it's earlier than the grey "V 40" headlight below it.
V = 1960
Maybe a 1957 or 1958 headlight (Guess) but the layout of the part #s are different than what I've normally seen on 56-58 headlights so I'm a little confused there.
Normal format I've seen

The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ has online listings of old VW Literature, like teh Parts Lists used at the dealerships back in the day
here is the 1963 edition Type 2 Parts List, updated through 67:
http://oacdp.org/5867part.html
look in section 9, electrical |

The "V 40" headlight is out of my bus with date 31 10 60 on m code plate.
Yes, no letter on that 'date code' is odd.
add it to the typos collection?
