Moderator edit: Van was found on Nov. 5th in Vancouver, WA; see page 2 for further details.
My friends 84 Automatic GL van was stolen out of his driveway this morning in Albany, Oregon. I only have the one pic of the van, but it is in great shape, brown/beige, and has Alaska plates. Any sightings of this van please inform us. (541)-672-5357
Thanks

I just helped him get the van a couple weeks ago, I was trying to help a friend get into cool old VW. It's his first van, just purchased from an older couple in Roseburg then we fixed it up a bit & he drove it home to Albany. I think the van was unlocked (no keys were made yet) & it had a rigged up push-button ignition. I'm pretty sure it had the round headlights also. It was missing the gas cap and he just got a brand new one last week. |

Eyes out in Olympia, WA. That's a pretty unique color and hard to hide on short notice. _________________ '90 White Westy ("The Longship")

I've seen two stolen from WA in the last couple weeks, plus a few more stolen a few weeks before that...Except the last two, the others all showed up in a week or two in the nearby area, abandoned in parking lots. Lots of stolen stuff in them, I think that was the same for all of them.

Hoping the same will happen with these too!
Either way, now watching for 2 blue and one two tone brown one in the Lower Mainland, plus I'll be heading to Belligham next weekend...

And, for me, a little red blinking light coming to me from ebay. Though, I'm now wondering if I should have ordered TWO little red blinking lights b/c there are slots for them in the front dash and I don't want it unbalanced looking. LOL

Thanks everybody for keeping your eyes out for the van. It's been over 24 hours now, we're still hoping the van will turn up in one piece |

Probably looked the same as this one but sans hubcaps? Taken from an ad on the Samba for illustration purposes only for people to get a better idea what it would look like...I'll delete if it isn't right.

Sorry for your loss. Keeping my eyes peeled over on this side of the mountains.
Questions that come to mind... What are these guys doing with the parts? Are these just meth heads who are looking for a quick buck? Are they installing these items on their vans? Or does the recent rash of thefts in OR and WA suggest a larger scheme is at play? Who is buying the stolen parts and where are they being moved out of?
Perhaps those who have suffered from the recent thefts should post specific details of the items that were stolen. And perhaps there should be a "stolen van" sticky to help keep all this information in one place. Maybe someone can start connecting the dots on who these scumbags are.
What do you guys think... "Stolen Van" sticky?

No need for a sticky, there is a gallery just for stolen cars here. In case you haven't seen it.- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_cat.php?cat_id=53
Hopefully the van gets found quickly and the PNW meth heads get put away for some time.

Thanks for putting that up Syncrodoka... I'll be watching that forum from now on.
I still feel there might be some value in having a sticky, even if just a temporary sticky until these van stealing punks get put away. The parts being sold have to be going somewhere. If we can identify the guy on CL or whatever trying to pawn off parts or selling sketchy, undocumented vans, maybe we can catch this loser. This person does seem to have some familiarity with vanagons. Has anyone buying parts run into some pimply faced, toothless, skinny weirdo with a bunch of vans in the back yard?
Again, bump, and so sorry this has happened.

A recent stolen van thread was talking about how these vans seem to be stolen because of their utility as all kinds of stolen gear is recovered in them like scooters and stereo equipment.
1st step: steal van
next step: steal more crap 'till van's full
last step: leave on side of road when vanagon syndrome compromises crime spree.
Nice to know meth heads appreciate the box-on-wheels design as much as we do! _________________ ---------------------------------------------------
