I figure this Q is right up Dale's alley but if anyone can answer that'd be great.

The switch on my 091was missing the terminals so I popped off one I have on a IRS bug trans I have laying around and compared to the 091. They both have the same threads and the only difference is the 091 has a slightly taller body.
In the process I figured I'd check to see if it works. Now my old swingaxle had a switch that would work only when it felt like it and eventually I gave up on it. So I can't remember wxactly how they were wired.
To test it I figured with the knob/button bottomed out on the switch body it should short out the two terminals. But with a MM attached I didn't show any continuity between the terms. Was this the wrong assumption or do I have two bad switches? If so I'll order a new unit.
Can I use any run of the mill reverse switch or is there actually a difference in them like depth of throw?

your are correct , when the button is pushed in completely there should be continuity between the 2 prongs .

Bug / bus all use the same switch
