Always nice to have that little bit extra storage space Twisted Evil

If there is enough space in there to store a squirrels head it might be worth $ 45.00 otherwise its a waste of money.

Yeah I liked it too, but you know it cost them about $2.00 from China. It would be neat if it was deep enough to hold a spare key.

Just noticed the MADE IN THE USA logo on the web page....

OK so it costs $3.00 then if its a USA item. Still....... $45.00....um... Rolling Eyes

You should totatly get some made for $3 and them undercut GW and sell them for $6.

Good luck..... Rolling Eyes

I think they are the perfect size too, but I'd settle for a Fisher Cat skull, or some other similar sized ermine skull.

Bought a custom shift knob from a Samba vendor a couple of years ago. Really good quality, but it seems he's not in business anymore. Fits really good in my hand. The knob on my Syncro was chewed up by a bored pitbull. I might keep it for the battle scars.

I got this one from a vendor here on SAMBA. I had to re-thread it but it was totally worth the trouble...IMHO

^^ My OCD is twitching.

Yeah, I like that guy's tiki stuff, he has nice small knobs too that I've been considering for the lockers.

My stereo might look like that! Shocked Embarassed Shocked I couldn't find enough of those two ended clear tube connectors so had to use the yellow ones instead...I've been meaning to fix it b/c I didn't think it was *right* and b/c it bothered me that they didn't match! In my defence, I bought two connectors and did not realize you also had to cap everything. LOL

And, I'm sad that I do not have a shifter to change the knob on, dang automatic transmission! LOL

Has anybody ever had weight be a factor in a custom shift knob?

There's a lot of CNC stainless steel out there. But might it contribute to popping out of gear on rough roads or bumps?

Basically, I don't want to spend fat cash on a fancy knob in the name of aesthetics only to have the functionality of my van decrease .

As long as your trans is in good shape I can't imagine the weight of the shift knob making a difference. YMMV.

I got this military surplus handle. it's got 2 triggers and a button underneath.

the hole fit the shaft just right, and it's got 2 set screws holding it on. the wires just run down the shaft unconnected to anything.

My '82 and my '71 have 12mm by (I think) 1.5 threaded shafts. Not sure when they went to the larger diameter. When I looked online for knobs many of the places had different bushing inserts so you could order whatever you needed for your car.

It might contribute to a shifter failure where it fatigues near the bottom at the set screw that holds the collar until complete failure. This type of failure happens even without a weighted shift knob.

I do believe a lug nut works as the insert mentioned, turning anything ino a shift knob.
I've got a wooden burl on my syncro, and am planning to make a spiraled Damascus steel one for my other syncro.

I miss the Scat short throw shifter I had on my 62 bug. The distance from 2nd and third was like an inch but on a Transporter it would be like scratching your ankle to reach.

I also have an automatic transmission but on my “to do” is to relocate the shifter to push button Select-O-Matic style via servo or column shifter with custom boat steering control cabling. Reason being to free up the super valuable floor space in that area. Logically the manual shifter needed to be be there but the AT doesn’t.

Made a few over the years, loose copies of the stock shape. In Delrin and aluminum and one in yew and aluminum ( with shift pattern engraved on top ), quentin has the latter, can’t find pic.

And then a bit of scrap from another machine shop. I drilled and tapped, stupid big and cold Smile but you could have a potpourri in it Smile

Btw, the aluminum copy of the stock shape knob is crap. Too cold. Prob too hot in summer. It’s gone !

I've driven vans with a lot of different shift knobs and this Yew one Alistar made is by far my favorite one.
