My bus, 1967, with 78.8x90.5 motor. At about 2K rpm I get a droning noise. (2k-3k rpm). Sounds like a rear wheel bearing, but those are now new. I replaced the fan, fan tin was bent a bit so I body worked the dents back into shape. It makes the noise whether in gear or reving it in neutral. When I rev the motor from the engine compartment I can feel a vibration. I will try reving it without the fan belt to see if it is the alternator.

Any ideas?

OK.
Without fan belt, no vibration.
With fan belt, vibration.
I think the fan is rubbing the backing plate/tin. I can hear it slightly at idle.
I checked the rear alternator bearing by trying to move the fan up/down. no play.

You will have to remove the fan from the housing to see if it is bent or cracked. Just dirt in the fan can cause an out of balance condition.
I have seen cracked fans on stock engines.
