I'm not surprised a Vanagon hearse existed in Germany, but this is the first I've ever seen of one!

Best!

A practical choice for those (like me) who espouse the old "I'm gonna be buried in my van" chestnut!

Better change those fuel lines unless you checked the box for cremation.

Interesting that the latch on the "treasure chest" door looks like a factory single or doublecab. I wonder if those were factory or coach built?

Quite literally the last Vanagon I ever want to ride in.

I dig the back hatch on this one:

ETA: I also like the Wolfsburg mud flaps.

exactly

i don't see why I should ride (or pay for) a Hearse when my time has come..
unless it came while behind the wheel of the camper
just lay the bed out and slide the coffin right in for my last camp..
though I'm not planning to be interred in the earth.. just seems too dank for me.. I'll go for one last bon fire and scatter my ashes in some state & national parks. Wink

What is our fascination with glass carriages for our dead?

It isn't new at all nor is it a North American thing. Horse drawn carriages, motor driven carriages designed to display the beautiful wooden box.

We even put our leaders (some leaders) into glass coffins so the admiring public can view them.

Put me in a simple pine box and burn me up when I'm done. Use me for fertilizer or whatever......don't spend a lot of money, don't make a big deal of it all.......... I really will not care!

I think the glass is to show the coffin and the flowers, always a ton of flowers. Is the one at the beginning of the thread air cooled?

I actually got a call for repair advice from such a person. The call came from an acquaintance who was hauling a coffin containing the body of his brother, and he was dealing with the added challenge of having to move the coffin to work on the engine. I forget the details of his Vanagon problem, although he did share the details of the mishap that lead to his brother's undoing. I remember being bewildered and asking, 'you're doing what?!'

I suppose if they neglected to change the fuel lines they could also offer a cremation option. Smile

Thanks. I'll add this to the stash of VW hearse pictures I have stolen and put on my harddrive.

The problems is that I've yet to see a VW coach that I'd own. They are all uglier than hell... too much eurolook. To boxy. Either that or they just look like someone took their old van to the local florida hack shop and Mario'd the whole thing up.

I mean, I can appreciate it for what it is, and if I was hit on the head by a brick, repeatedly for several hours, and fell in love with a vanagon I could see how someone would want to own such a vehicle.
