I attended the world premier of the movie last night and I have to say it is pretty good. It tells the story about a local guy who buys a barn find bug from a widow and restores it, along with interviews with other VW folks, history of the bug, some of the old advertising from print and TV, which is really great. It starts out by saying "Please don't play slug bug for the next 80 minutes." Good stuff. I was unable to find out if it is going to be released on video, or on TV. I noticed a few familiar names in the credits, including Everett's and others. Catch it if you can. |
So what year bug is getting restored in the movie? _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

I was very pleasantly surprised when mine showed up in my mailbox late today.
I sat down and watched it right away. It's outstanding. Extremely professional and well presented. There's a lot of archival footage I've never seen before. It's definitely well worth the modest cost. _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

On 11/2013 I spent some hours with the film director Damon Ristau. He got some good footage of me driving around in my Beetle out in the south side of Mexico City, and working on my VW parts storage. I hope it helped the movie! _________________ Parts VW

Got my copy of the Bug Movie yesterday, but if you are owed the combo Bus and Bug movie pack, they say they are still printing those and they are not in the mail yet. So you get the single copy of the Bug Movie as a bonus. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Watched the Bug Movie yesterday. I found it to be a nice retelling of the Beetle story from the perspective of a generation that never witnessed these vehicles when they were new and ubiquitous.
It's a good sign, because typically, people like the cars of their youth, as you can see from the vintages of cars at shows today compared to twenty years ago. Beetles are an exception. Each new generation seems to embrace them all over again, and this movie is an example of that. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

I downloaded this movie yesterday on Itunes. I was really looking forward to watching it. Overall, I say the movie was ok. On a scale of 1 star being lousy and 5 stars being great, I'd give it 2.5 stars.
Just my own opinion but I personally thought too much of the story line and time was spent on the guy restoring the bug and the interviews with Randy (old bug) and the celebrity. I felt more time could have been spent on the history and evolution on the "whys" that these cars were so wildly popular in the 60's. Yes, it touched on it but not enough. Also, more expansion into what's keeping the attraction and popularity with these bugs/VW's so vibrant after so many decades have passed since they were last sold in the USA. Adding some interviews of younger 20 something VW fanatics would of been cool too. Maybe it could interest them and bring in more younger folks to the air cooled VW fold. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Having been interviewed for it (my interview was cut but I still make two cameos), I agree that there was a lot left on the table and some aspects that weren't told. But when you take a step back and look at everything that's there and then the other areas that could have been added or touched upon more and you'd have a 5 hour long movie. I know it weighed on Damon on what had to be cut just to keep the movie flowing. _________________ Yeah I like Herbie AND New Beetles. Got a problem with it? Tough.

I have not seen it but it sounds good. I did find a cool VW documentary on you tube. A lot of old black and white footage, it was interesting .
