Windows front manual – how to make easier to roll up? Tried the search w/o luck.

Would like to make the F windows easier / smoother to use while I have the panels off to install new speakers.

I'm thinking the cable in the housing - maybe cleaning/re-lubing?

How is the best way to go about that? What is the best lube?

What else is a typical sticking point or what else should I look at?

Thanks.

New Mexico grit is rough on manual mechanisms. You are probably better off not even greasing, it feels great for one year and then just collects dust.

I just gave up and installed electric, at least on the passenger side. After several tries at making it easy to close I finally realized easy manual windows are inimical to the Vanagon’s ideology. Anyway its a driving hazard, leaning over there in a Santa Fe dust storm desperately trying to close the window before the van fills up with tumbleweeds. All the more reason to go electric on the passenger side.

That's odd - mine work with very little effort.

Sometimes a stiff scraper seal can make a window difficult to roll up/down.

Look for " dry silicone spray" in a spray can. 3m makes some and it does not attract dirt like other lubricants. Roll the window down, liberally spray the run channels from top to bottom and let a bunch run at the bottom. If you have the panels off, roll the glass up and spray the chanels below the glass. Roll the window up and down several times. Works like a charm!

Google " Drislide "

Motorcycle cables, chains, bicycle cables, chains.
Will not attract dust, dirt, etc. as it dries slippery but not sticky.
