I am not sure who this works so I am asking, what is the best way to avoid all of the park fees ? I know you can buy a season pass for some of the parks in CA, put what about other states is there the eqivulent of a season pass for parks state to state ?

you might guess I'm planning a trip cross country and want to avoid paying $$$ to see each park.

David

State park pass in NY is 60 usd. You have to do a lot of parks to make it worthwhile, though.

Utah's annual pass is $75 and covers 43 parks.

Depends on the pass you're interested in: National Parks or State Parks.

National Park System has its own annual passes, as posted above. Very much worthwhile if visiting multiple parks in a year's time.

State Park Systems vary by state and, thus, will require separate passes for each state. Arizona's: http://azstateparks.com/Giftshop/11_annualpass . It's $75 for a standard pass, $200 for a premium pass.

Here in Wisconsin, out-of-state visitors pay $35 for an annual pass, but only $10 for a daily pass, so that helps. Perhaps other states have something similar?

Actual *camping fees* are additional, but if you're just driving through (no stopping or parking), it's FREE!

Have a great trip!

I read thru this and thank you for the link to the federal park program...

I was going to buy the year pass and as i read it it seems there is an exception for permeant disabled which I should qualify for. requires a $10 one time fee for a lifetime pass.... totally worth it !

The National Park pass is definitely the way to to if you plan on hitting a few national parks or monuments. As for state land, if you plan on camping in state parks, you typically don't need to also buy a use pass, so I rarely end up purchasing one. Usually the use pass is part of the camping free and they will sometimes give you a dated pass for the rear view mirror when you pay for your camp site.
