So I am days from picking up my late Dad's Clementine, fresh from restoration. For a brief history of this car's restoration, check my earlier thread:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2...mp;start=0
I will take lots more photos after I pick her up this weekend, but in the meantime, here are some teasers. She didn't look this good on the dealer's lot back in November of 1970 when we picked her up!
She's not quite done, just a few details to finish up. But she is sure smiling!

Looks great Phil! Such a difference from when I saw it last year. And, another check in the box for Fastbacks. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

The front looks real chunky with the overriders. I like it! |

Thanks, guys! Late fasties seem to be the Rodney Dangerfields of the T3 set, but Clemmie may change a few minds if I can help it.
Rear overriders are at the chrome shop, but will be on her soon. Foglamps are ready to install up front. A few tweaks and she will be ready for another 43 years!
I am a stock fan, but I have room for the "asterisk" in adding authentic VW parts from other years or models if they make it a better car. I had a factory sunroof grafted in (and what a job they did!), Ghia dual horns, and nutplates welded in the C-pillars so I could add pop-outs; the latter were not available by '71 but make a huge difference in SoCal summers, whether parked or driving. Euro touches like the side markers, rear foglamp, and amber indicators are authentic for her homeland's market, so they seems acceptable to me, besides adding safety.
Sehr Gut, Clementine,
and Semper Fi, Dad!

It goes without saying but it would not have been possible without the Samba. There are a lot of hard to find parts I collected over the past few years, most of them from fellow Samba members and businesses that advertise here. Tons of advice, too, from those with more hands-on experience than I have. Lessons learned, build threads, and offline emails from the T3 mailing list all helped make me smarter and made this possible.
I hope to show the car to local members/groups, and share the help to pay it back/forward. It took a village! |

Is this the car that ISP peeled back the roof and did a whole skin for the sunroof? It looked like awesome work when they were doing it |
Yes, they did a lot of awesome work to graft that in. It's indistinguishable from a factory installation. Actually, since ISP makes metal replacement parts for the old plastic, it's even better.
And again, I found many parts and the roof section from Samba members in the area. |

A rather "Mr. Toad" type drive home, with texters, a car stopped in the carpool lane, non-looking lane-changers, etc., but she's home safe and sound in the garage.
Still needs her fog lamps and rear bumper guards, but is otherwise pretty much done, with just a few odds and ends, plus some rewiring I have planned.
But she flew home on the freeway at 70, with just a little wander due to higher than normal front tire pressures, plus the need for a little tightening up of the front end. Of course these cars are never "done"!
More photos tomorrow, but with Christmas and guests coming, they may be a little slow in coming.
But here she is, snug for the night back home:
