Now that the cat is out of the bag, we may as well chime in here...

From our Facebook page:
Type One Restorations will be breaking from our normal routine with the preservation of this July 1951 Barndoor Standard. One of the earliest 22A (Standard) M62 (left hand drive, left hand cargo doors) busses known to exist. This bus was originally ordered in factory primer to be delivered to Gustavsson, AB Omnibus in Orebro, Sweden.

While the entire story of this bus' life isn't yet known we do know that it was parked in Sweden sometime in the late 70's where it sat until being brought to the US in 2013. The preservation was started on the east coast before the bus was sold to a long time customer of Type One Restorations who shipped it to us to continue the process.

Unlike our usual full blown show car restorations, this bus will be our first venture into the realm of preservation. Plans at this point are to save as much of the original German metal and primer as possible with minimally invasive metal work on only the worst areas. Sympathetic paint blends will be used to bring the reworked areas into line with the remaining original paintwork. The running gear will be fully restored to original standards.

Please watch this space for updates on the progress of this project. -

It is our intention and that of the new owner that we will keep this thread updated with our progress on the preservation. I will do my best to stop in at least once a week with updates and some pix when I can. Mark made a lot of headway on the paint and has given us a really good base idea of what is there under all that not so glorious blue. there are some heavily rusted areas that will get much needed attention but for the most part this is a very solid bus. I am extremely happy that we have been given the opportunity to help get this very special bus back on the road in working order.

Keep your eyes on this space and our Facebook page for updates.

So what happened to this? Just spent ages trawling though the T1R FB there was only one pic where the build status hadn’t changed from the last pics here. What’s the story today? Does any one have any recent pics?

The Samba is still the best way to document builds. It all gets lost on the social media platforms.
