If you get in a jam about what the jam looked like, here's a time capsule shot. |

One more look at the trunk before the stripper gets his hands on the body. |

Looks like the body is ready for paint? Are you bringing it to a local painter? |

I like this shot. It seems very few of the dealer diagnostic stickers survive. Particularly from 73s for some reason.

So here's everything at Redi-Strip. Guess what we forgot...the windshield (wind screen)! The body will be submerged in chemicals and charged with electric current. And then we will be charged, out the ass! Click on pic for larger size, more detail. |

Looks like a fun project!
Building a good and reliable engine will be another adventure ;0)
IMO making sure you it is done right (i.e. having all the parts on the engine that it left the factory with)and taking the time to do the research about using the best available modern and compatible components like, transmission fluid, oil, and fuel hoses will be essential for reliability and long lived trouble free enjoyment…
PS especially if Chicago gasoline has ethanol additives (IMO then, use Teflon Hoses for Engine and BN4) _________________ Current VWs 71 T2 Westy SO-72/6(Miami), 71 Crew Cab, 2015 GSW TDI

No zinc coating, I don't know anyone that offers that! I have been using Redi-Strip, on and off, since around '85ish. They have never offered an in house post strip primer or coating of any kind. At least not here in Chicago. |

That sucker looks a Whole lot better, sans paint!! Looked oddly rough, for the low miles, in the original pics.... This shows a Very different story!
Excellent, solid start to your new Thing!!
Do they do a full dip Zinc coating as well?? |
I was thinking the same thing. That looks amazingly better.
Back in the day we used to use metalizing on lumber/truck racks before painting or powder coating. It is a way more consistent finish than hot dip galvanizing. I can only imagine what that bare metal would look like after only one day here in the islands.

As far as cost goes... Well, they didn't exactly hold to the quoted price, that's for sure! I was very surprised, as it was the first time that every happened. The quality of the work from them has always been outstanding however.
I think if you took them the whole car at once, body and floor pan. They would probably charge around $3000-3500 US, 2014.
You can't compare sand blasting and chemical stripping. I mean, I guess you can, but they create totally different results. We wanted to try and stop the corrosion process everywhere, even places we couldn't see or get to.
If you click-on-pic you can see more detail. |
