It looks like a very good replica. It's a wicked buggy, but I just don't like the headlights.

Now that is cool!

Just needs the 'Vair 6 and some "big fat weenies" out back to complete the look!

Wicked is a good descriptor for the buggy. Cool Wonder what the headlight spread would be with those lights set back in a tunnel like that? And what's the deal with the dual gas caps?

When Steve McQueen was working with Pete Condos designing it, he decided it would have the twin Monza style fillers like race cars of that period which had them so they could refuel faster in the pits. McQueen just thought the twin fillers were cool, at least that's what Pete Condos told me.

Good enough for me, McQueen has set the cool bar on more than a few fronts. Smile

The top one looks to be 3-4" in diameter, with the other as an open as a vent you could probably dump 10 gallons in in a couple seconds....that'll get you back on the dunes before anyone misses you.

Hmmmm.. interesting side profile. I think I have seen that rear end before?

Like you Rathbone, I'd glass over those too-narrow headlamp shells. And that wraparound windshield is like a 'Stay Out' sign for the typical fat american.

Cool look. Not liking the windshield at all. Not sure I could get in it. Don't like bugs hitting my forehead at speed.

If the new windshield worked as well as the movie buggy you shouldn't get hit at all. Have a look at the screen cap from the movie and you can see the water spray going over Steve and Faye's heads.

I could have sworn I read where one of those fillers was actually a camera mount? I know there is a picture floating around with the camera mounted to the hood for interior shots.

I guess I am David. I did not pay attention to the reference at all. Something appearing in a movie or on TV does not trigger an approval gene in me. I just looked at what I thought were the merits/demerits of the car itself.

I'd love to build one someday. I do fear though the headlights are to close together for dutch road approval Rolling Eyes

And, I doubt the non-safety glass, acrylic windscreen , or lack of wipers, is legal either, but its still a very nice job. I just can't see how they could have gone to all that other work to get every detail right and not have put a Corsa engine in it. The variety of colors surprises me too.

The laws in France are very tight so changing the engine isn't an option I believe.
