Well I now have enough progress to chronicle some results from my 1964 Ruby Red Variant S. The car has been in California since 1964. It has been parked since 1978(indoors). Now it will ride again!! Here are a few pics.

wow, that's amazing! I wish I could find something like this over here in the UK but the chances are very slim! that has to be one of the most original Type 3's I've seen in a long time.
as I get to know Type 3's a little more I can really appreciate a stock car not messed around with, no wonder they are sought after

Charlie,
Looks like you're doing right by that car.
Did the column go in as easily as you expected?
Are you planning to bring it to the Classic in 2014?
Keep up the good work!

It's so cool to see an original brought back with as little work/modifications needed... a real time machine. Thanks for sharing. |

Damn, that's beautiful! Now you need the other red needle gauges!
Still interested in any other info on the blue Mercedes in the pic next to it, too. If you know anything PM me. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

That's a really nice survivor. Looks like it's got an older respray though. I kinda got that impression looking at the fresh air vents (before the pics auto resized for the forum), then the 2nd pic above appeared, and I saw the scratches in the finish, and the black fender welt, and knew right then it got re-shot. The window seals look good too, and I was thinking it had a tinted windshield installed (probably when the car got repainted way back when). A very nice looking car though. Any shots of the interior (besides the dash)?
P.S. I liked the 2 tone bug rims you had on it. You'll find that the car probably rode nicer with the radials on it.
P.P.S. Welcome to the forum, and what a way to make a splash.
Also, IF you know where a Peru Green 68 Square is hiding like that one was, let me know. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
