I have this photo in the gallery of a Deluxe rear seat back, it looks like there is a wire there along the bottom edge:

I'm no expert on this but it seemed like there was always a wire if there were spikes?

Wire or no wire, Matt Miller seat covers are the best out there and fit great.

I'd definitely add a wire in there- they help distribute the pulling stress along the whole seat back when the same big butt goes in the same place every day back there. A folded edge is just not enough defense when pushed through the points.

I think this rear bottom seat is from a split, right? I have a 64 deluxe, assuming this will work? Thanks and any comments are welcome. I've looked at Everett's rear seat thread and I think I have the correct seat.

Yes, it looks correct to me comparing it against the photos I posted in the past and in this thread.

Can anyone help ID this seat? It has come out of my 56, but unsure if it is original. My bus is an early 56 from the Wolfsburg factory, but the seat could easily be a later replacement. Also does the upholstery look original or replaced?

If indeed your bus is a Wolfsburg bus your rear seat should be BIG spring.

And center leg should be pointy.

Thanks for the info and as stated in my original post my bus is a Wolfsburg bus - chassis was manufactured Dec 1955, bus registered Jan 1956.

The bus had had resto work done in the past, and I did suspect the seat was from a later bus, but can anyone definitely say which year it is from?

It looks like the mid-61-64 upholstery color to me, Basalt Grey.
But not 1964 because it has sewn seams instead of heat-seams.
So... mid-1961-63

I am not sure why the legs are white, that is not standard, but I have seen it before on some 1964 Buses.

Didn't Deluxes from '64-'67 have white (isn't it actually silver beige or silver white)? Did some '64s have sewn pleats?

Yes, some are White, mostly 64 seats from what I have and it appears to be somewhat random.

AFAIK no on the 64s with sewn seams but if someone said they had an early 64 with sewn seats it would not surprise me if they used up the "63" seats that were sitting around first.

I have seen 64 heat-seamed seats that still had the 61-63 style plastic grab handles with chrome ends. I have one.

Did all seats come two tone, or were there some basalt grey with grey piping? Are there any tell tale signs that highlight this has had a retrim? Question

Now that you mention it, Deluxe Buses normal have 2-tone seats, silver beige and basalt grey.
Standards are single tone, Basalt grey everywhere.

It looks original to me though with all the stitching and the coloring, is it 2-tone in person?

2-tone

No, single tone - it looks original to me also, doesn't look like it's been messed around with, and all stitching looks neat and factory - was wondering if there was any mother tell tale signs........

I checked the charts again and Mouse Grey/Pearl white Buses were single tone so it's probably from that color Bus instead of the 2-tone Sealing Wax Red/Beige grey Bus I posted above.

So my best guess is that it's original and from a Mouse Grey Deluxe Bus.

Hi, just wanting to confirm that this is a early 68-73 rear seat? It has holes on the bottom of the legs, and a rounded seatback ilo the squared which I believe is the later bus from what i’ve researched? I’m still learning and am in process of re-doing this seat for my 64 split window, didn’t want to spend a small fortune on a split window rear seat. One other question I have (as I’m told the early bay seat will fit) is will I have any issued with it when I go to put heat in it down the road? Sorry if that’s a stupid question. I’m thinking for some reason I read somewhere that it might. Thanks in advance for anyone who’d be so kind as to shed light and clarify.
