i tried watching the show but it just seemed too corny and set up for me. plus, the little tv i do watch really only comes down to star trek and the movie channels. i honestly dont even watch any of the automotive shows. but thats for another thread i guess.
now, if someone on the show made a drag car out of a type 3 or a bus or something, with a vw engine, id probably watch the show just for the vw/s. but thats just me. _________________ -'85 c10 5.3 LS, 222 cam, long tubes, x pipe, 3 inch spin tech's

A new season starts Jan 11th. COVID 19 has put a lot of challenges and delays in the TV filming schedule. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

That video is more then a year old. Azn and Farmtruck mostly just display the car at shows to help them sell T-shirts. They don't race it. They might make a publicity pass for the cameras. _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Meh. I don’t owe anyone an explanation and I’m by no means living vicariously through anyone. I like my life just fine. Personally I think anyone who watches or gets upset about anything sports related is ridiculous unless they have a family member on the team so I guess we all have our issues. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Yeah, I guffawed when I read that. Like he views reality TV "stars" who don't even know he exists as if they were some close family member. I have a feeling his "choking up" and "empathy" is more derived from the idea that he wants to live vicariously through them. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

You don't have to be a psychopath not to give a damn about Reality TV stars and their 'made for programing lives'.
Example: Your own car breaks down that you need to get to work in, in relation to ,SOMEONE else's race car breaks down and they can't promote a vendors product. The world will still go round no matter which soda I'm inclined to buy.
It is wrong to have the same emotions for the two different situations. |
So you can't make the leap from correlation to someone else's situation and your own? That's called empathy. Look it up. I empathize with the situation whether real or fabricated. Which in this case, I believe it was real as I watched with my own eyes as Chief rolled the car in a horrific accident. When his friends and family were running to the car in a absolute panic wondering if he was dead or injured I don't think was even remotely fabricated. Watching that scene, yes I choked up as we have all been in a similar situation(i.e. watching your kid but their ass on their bike halfway down the block and running to get them) |

Yep. Sure did. Also cried when they shot Old Yeller and when the dogs come running up over the hill in “Homeward Bound”. Didn’t realize having emotions and empathy was so frowned upon around here. You guys are just too badass for me yo! 🙄 _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

I think there is a large barrier between being empathetic and trying to become a charter on TV by watching it. If you become the character ,we inherit their accomplishments like winning and loosing ,we are empowered and so on but we are sitting on the couch playing make believe like a child. Sitting in front of a TV/monitor is not much of an accomplishment.
I really see Reality TV as destructive as drugs/alcohol and is worse than than other forms of entertainment because it parallels real life. Drug abusers are not trying to source self esteem by doing things and neither are people sitting in front of a TV/Monitor. What should the ratio of DOING things be compared to TALKING about doing things? Reality TV serves as a replacement for real life. Reality TV stars are exploiting this to enrich themselves. |

I know what your saying here, respect it and do it myself. My issue is with 3rd party emotional attachment so the 1st party gets your money. 1st party emotional attachment is good, 3rd party and you need to get a life of your own.

You can’t be that cynical? So if I get emotional during a touching movie scene I need to get a life? It’s called empathy. I remember the episode and I knew exactly how he felt. I t-boned an Isuzu pickup truck in my 63 Ragtop back in 88. When I had to go to the tow yard to get my things out of the car I literally cried when I saw the car. It was totaled and I had put a ton of work into it. When he was struggling with the decision to rebuild or move on was difficult. Personally I like the racing aspect of it but I also like the guys in the show. Some of them are kinda douchey at times but seem like decent guys for the most part. Very relatable. _________________ 1960 Indigo Blue Ragtop (Blue Barry)

Discovery Channel or any other Reality TV entertainment is as good for society as porn or violent movies.
Have you seen this Vid?

They are using drag cars on a PUBLIC road at NIGHT.
They believe a trucker called the police , was bragging about it and express agitation toward him for ending a dangerous situation.
It seems like most of the fun in street drag racing is that they are no supposed to be doing it. It's naughty. The cops are doing the Executive Branch part of the Law. If the thugs don't like it they should try to get the Legislative Branch of the government to legalize it which would NEVER happen because doing something that is wrong for a thrill is NOT good for the bulk of the population. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle.
