It is way too big for my needs - I'm never more than a day away from a water source - so I'm not using it.
Feel like I should keep it intact due to it's relative rareness but OldHuldy67's post (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=261355&start=7180 today has got me thinking again about chopping it down....
For now I have rigged up a smaller temporary solution. I installed a barb fitting at the bottom for the pump line, it has a vent, and it can be filled
from the top... but it has no drain so it's not ideal. The space under the seat can be used for much more important things than 30 litres of water IMO.

Ours is a pop top Weekender with the jump seat behind the drivers seat and a table.
If my daughter didn't have so much fun sitting there while we tool down the road, I'd install what you have. _________________ Peace, Regis |

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like a nice spartan version of the westy. I like it!

That is an 80/81 Westy P22 interior. Wider bed and more seating. On that more basic model the water tank fits under the bench at one end. Since the tank can't be as tall it is much wider. The door post is in the way or you would see that there is no stove, just a sink in the smaller kitchen cabinet. There is no fridge either, just an icebox the same size as a fridge, so the drawer and storage below the drawer are smaller. Nice setup, just add a Truckfridge and a 1 burner stove.

Nice - great stuff, keep it coming! I'm also embarking on a portable camping interior that sits in the garage 95% of the time, and clamps into the van for camping trips. Will update with pics of my $500 rooftop camping setup from last year.

Here is the most current incarnation of the interior of mine. I'd still like to get a rear overhead box built similar to the westy set up, except something that goes all the way across.

Don't have any pics of the central area, but you get the idea.
I'm a small dude and am totally content with the space and utility. I love the aesthetic of tin top VW's and prefer it to the Westies. Though, I do wish I had a sunroof van sometimes... Twould be nice to stand straight up while cooking. _________________ 1986 WBX (Tin Top Camper) |

this was my panel vanagon in the UK
i built it myself, 3/8" ply, i sewed the cushion covers myself
i found the interior very comfortable to use, i drove it all around the UK and europe, this is a 3rd generation in VW's, i did others in previous vans
being a panel van it was perfect for stealth camping, i miss it _________________ lucy our westy
