Got back safe after inaugurating the newly closed up Baja on the sands of the Pine Barrens during this year's Trailbash.

It's been sitting safely indoors for the Winter. I haven't emptied the bed from the junk I piled on it during its seasonal siesta.

The plan is to get it roadworthy for Bullibrigade in the late fall. 1250 miles each way of stiff shock goodness. I'll count up the concrete seams in the Interstate and give you a grand total after the trip.

The old tires were simply shot. Nearest I can tell, the Winston Fun & Mud rear tires are from the mid '90's, and the front tires are from the late '70's or early '80's

They were checked and splitting at the sides, so I had to replace them.

Found some used 31" Bridgestone Dueller A/T's for the rear, and just used some 6.70-15 bias plys for the front. I'm looking for a LT radial with a 27 or 28" diameter for the fronts. The 6.70-15's are 29", much like the old tires, and are just a bit tall for the front.

Here's a side by side diameter check:

The old Winston's on the truck, the Dueller's, and the 6.70's.

And mounted:

The offroad tire for the front centerlines would be Mickey Thompson mini mags. The look from the side is similar. They are 27" diameter, I may have to get a set:

Those are nice tires, not DOT approved but really nice. I would just go with the Yokohamo Y742s.

Those duellers look good. I almost got them but ended up with General Grabber At2s. 31"s sure are nice on the freeway Cool

That truck has been a great inspiration for me.

After sitting with a bad and leaky transmission for over two years now, I'm delivering the Baja to Dennis at Valley VW in Drums, PA to give the truck some love.

Hoping to get the Baja into reliable driver status after too long sitting.
Wish us luck!

Wow! Five years since the last Trailbash!
Still having problems with the go-fast engines.
I'm just not good at these 1914cc thingys.

Had an engine built, got 40 miles on it, and the front main seal gave out.
Been literally on by back with disc issues, and surgery, but now I'm getting "back" into it.
Pulling the engine this weekend to see what's what.

And I never get tired of seeing this:
