Doubled up the brake light bulbs. 2 1157 led bulbs under flat lens.

X2 on removing the plastic on the wire ends. Crimp, solder shrink tube.
PS car looks awesome!

Soldering crimped connectors is a no-no and will make a weaker connection over time with expansion/contraction, a proper crimp is better IMO.

Well, there's 200 pages,
And while it's not there, it's getting pretty close
(and yet so far). Rolling Eyes

WRT the crappy red/yellow/blue crimp connectors, i have done them different ways.
The correct factory crimp is a double crimp, one for the copper wire strands, and the other for the insulation.
If you strip away the plastic sheath on the re/yellow/blue and use just shrink-wrap, the wrap doesn't provide that much strain relief.
Makes a stress riser at the edge of the (soft copper stranded) crimped wire.
I used to do this, but now i leave the plastic to provide -some- strain relief, and then go over it with shrink-wrap as well.
Looks a bit messier sometimes, but functionally should be better.
IHHO, FWIW, YMMV they all suck compared to the double crimp real factory style..

Here, doing the compartment wiring,
I added a bit of shrink-wrap to the correct double crimp ends.

Finished up the compartment.
Decided to shrink-wrap everything so it all shows black.
Reminds me of those buggies wired all in the same color. Laughing

Ended up using a couple of zip ties on my stupid tubes to keep the wires out of sight.
You can see them a bit, but still pretty decently hidden.
Something better might come to me,
Or,
More likely,
I'll stop caring entirely! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The guys at ISP came through and shipped out my last stuff real quick-like.
Super stoked for that. Cool
Stuff like trim clips and horn bracket.

Finally stabbing the final crown jewels of electrical.. Cool

Big moment came to let the smoke out of everything,
And whadda ya know, it all just worked! Shocked

Then i threw 5 gallons of Sunoco purple 110 in the tank,
And ran the fuel pump to see if there were any leaks.
There were.. Rolling Eyes

Luckily it turned out that i forgot to tighten the fitting at the bottom of the tank *whew*.

Threw the wheels on, and started gearing up to take a test-drive..

Shutting the door, the stupid clamp i use to keep the decklid open popped off,
The decklid slammed shut so hard it ejected the chrome trim part clear up out of it's push nuts onto the ground..
Now I'm using a piece of wood. Evil or Very Mad
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

That was a sign.
A sign i was tired and need to take my time,
And there's still a bunch of things i need to check and do before i mess anything else up.
Plus, it's a PITA getting this thing up on the stands.

So,
Maybe tomorrow..
Or the next day..

Still not -more- than 200 pages, right?

Looking good.

2X on taking your time.

Was changing my rear wheel cylinders today, and I rushed it and pumped the master cylinder down the the floor.

Guess what that did to my 50 year old master cylinder seals? - It's shot.

Just ordered a new master cylinder from ISP west... I should not have rushed it...

[quote="Clatter"]Thanks for all of the fine help, gentlemen.
Dag, what would we ever do without this resource??

Mr. Duncan has suggested that i will likely hit both contacts in the bulb when installed, or, can solder across the two contacts and ensure this happens.
Also can remove one of the mounting pins to make my 1157s onto 1156s.
Might just run them in the bus?
We'll see if any online fishing yields results..
Let me know if you find a linky.. Wink

WRT those crimpers, it still beguiles me how anyone thinks they re OK to use.
Still, i used them anyway.. Embarassed
See how it's wrong one way or the other?
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I just flipped them around and re-crimped both ways.
Then covered it in shrink wrap so i never have to see them again.
If it's hidden, it doesn't exist, right?

My workaround for those plastic connector terminals is to pull the plastic sleeve off them, put the wire in and crimp tightly with pliers so its not an actual crimp but just tight enough to hold the wire in...... and then solder. cover that with some heatshrink.......... better than covering the plastic

Making double brake light bulbs is a grand idea...

Have also heard to never use solder on crimped connections.
Seen it on the early style screw terminals for sure;
The Wiring Works harness i got for my oval came with all the stripped stripped ends tinned.
Crimp connections are supposed to be another matter entirely.
At least that’s what ‘they say’..

I've seen it. Some of the x-ray instruments I work on had tinned ends that went into a screw type terminal from the factory. These connections pass a lot of current and get hot. Then they come loose and cause problems. We've had to undo the mistake in the field. No issues with bare wire.

You're gaining on it.
For those red, blue, & yellow connectors, I use a different crimping tool. It puts an indent into the plastic and the connector to crimp it to the wire. No problems with them coming loose in the 30 years I've been crimping ends on with it.

As for the all black wire look in buggies, that reminds me of a friend who had a small engine fire in his bug. He used red wire to make up a new harness section. It worked, and he's color blind. Wink You just take it 1 wire at a time.

At this point I think you should slow down and take your time. Otherwise you'll be in there touching up other stuff. I do like the double bulb for the brake lights, and the LEDs really brighten them up. That might be the way to go versus using the bumper mounted lights.

I have run bulbs mounts from Ron Francis wiring. They designed them for older cars with single filament bulbs so the hot rod guys can have some better lighting. All three bulbs are doubles. 3 taillights, 2 brake, 1 signal. There is a bit of surgery to get the bulb mounts in, but the led bulbs fit in the flat style lens.

Whoo. Been plowing along..! Very Happy Very Happy

Was nice to spend a couple of weekend mornings -not- working on the car TBPH.
Kids both competed in surf contests, so i got to surf, and actually socialize with other humans. Shocked

On the other hand, being at war with neighbors is the opposite of socialization.. Twisted Evil
Anti-socialization?? Think
In this work area shot, you will notice several hundred watts' worth of sound equipment.
It may not look that loud in the picture, But...
Why does a guy wear hearing protection to do wiring?? Laughing
This is a -very- effective tool for managing neighbor relations.
They leave their LED flood-lights on all night shining in my bedroom window (again),
I provide them with Iggy Pop's first three albums on repeat.
This PA system has a nice diagram on the back, where it recommends speaker placement for an audience 'between 2500 and 5000' people.
It also has a feature "voice projection" that works nicely as well. Cool
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Been a billion little things to install, adjust, tighten, fiddle, fondle and re-do.
Can't even remember what they all were...

My friend Damon came over and helped me get the car down off the stands.
Jumped in, turned the key, and it fired right off.. Cool
Seems like the clutch works, and it goes in all gears.
Muffler sounds great. It's got a bit of boom to it.
Was actually surprised it was as loud as it was being so big, and glass-wrapped inside.
Got a video, but it just sounds ridiculous over a phone mic.
All you hear is the clatter.. Laughing

It was late, i don't know where my registration stickers are, the tenants were parked in the way, and we were a bit intoxicated at that point..
Probably just as well we didn't take it out yet.

Car sits damn low, and the ass drags a bit.
Hoping the front settles in more than the rear, because the front has stock torsions and the rear has those thick bars in.
We'll see after a few trips around the neighborhood.. One can hope.
Might limp around slow and get some pics like this, as it looks great,
But it's WAY too low to actually drive on the street,
At least if it's going to be driven fast..
The beam clamps will be scraping as will the muffler.

Might be too low to even make it out of the driveway.
But i intend to find out...

Agreed. Thats not low. Its perfect. The kind of low that screams performance, not the kind of low that says "Hey! Where is the meth?"

Agreed that's just about perfect. Cool
Run it around the block a couple of times, and see where it settles out, and note where it hits/rubs. Then go from there. It really looks beautiful sitting there on all 4, versus having it on stands. Cool
Hopefully today it gets the rest of the bling to finish off the outside. Wink

Funny,
as much as i am for customizing this thing,
i actually tried to leave all of the details stock.
Early fat trim is cool, as is the center arm-rest for the back seat.

But,
For some reason,
i decided to preserve the original configuration this car shipped with.
At least from a 'body details' point of view..

A US-spec black sunroof Fastback from '67 is actually kind of unique in some of the little things.
There certainly aren't going to be many of them around original for very much longer.

Even though I'm a butcher for sure,
Some of it is preserved for history.. Question
