Is there someone you're hoping will see all of that work at a show? Please don't tell me you're doing all of this for an 8 inch tall plastic gold trophy? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I'm surprised you didn't at least paint the wiper motor and polish the head of it.
I went thru the wiper dance on my 65 Notch too. It wasn't fun, but what I did was use the early parts, with the late shafts, and welded the arms to the shafts to make mine work. The fun part was finding the 70 only wiper arms for the outside, as they are getting harder to find. |
I am with Bobnotch on this. Is that orange peel I see on that wiper away. For shame!!!

Good question. Back then they were in their 20's, now they're in the their 50's.

And down another rabbit hole...
The column rebuild makes a good way to keep busy when it's wet/cold outside,
And you're absolutely sick to death of buffing..
It's a whole 'nuther chapter in the book,
So I started a separate thread for the column.
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9254424#9254424
That way, if it does have info useful to someone one day,
it doesn't get buried in the drivel..

If you paint it right, you shouldn't have to buff it.

Got a day in yesterday..
Anything besides buffing.
Column is coming along..
Time to get the wiring harness ready to go in.
Left the old one mostly intact..
I'd really like to scavenge some good wires from the old harness to do up the column.
Trying to decide if this dented USA flasher can gets to play.
Where to stop, right?
I'm thinking if it works, it's coming along..
Time to order up a bunch of grommets.
Got to duplicate what was on there before..
On and on..
If I can get this detail stuff done and ready to go on,
Assembly should go right quick methinks. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Yeah. Now is the time to get it in, before you start closing things up.
How's the wiper motor set up coming along? _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

|
|
WhooHoo!!!
BIG day for my little world..!
9+ hours.
Looks who’s back!
My Man knocked out the aprons in a couple of hours,
While i made a few laps of door jambs.
Nice to finally have some sun so i can see what I’m doing.
Black cars are funny that way, eh?
Looks good in the shade..
Even before lunch, doors are getting done.
Cowl, dash, rockers, drip rails, pillars, jambs, etc.
All got (re)done to a higher standard.
1200 and 2000 where needed,
Compound #1 on a wool buff,
Machine polish #2 on a black foam pad,
Fine polish #3 on different black foam pad.
Finally ceramic coat goes on..
Hard to show in a pic just how shiny..
Towel kind of helps.
The thing just kind of turns into something else..
Hard to describe.
Ceramic is even shinier than shiny.
Anyhow,
Shell is ready now, as are doors.
A few little thisses/thats left no doubt, touch-ups, etc.
All of which will happen after body goes on pan...
Assembly time..! _________________ Bus Motor Build

Looks good Steve. I bet you're happier than hell to say the words "Assembly time"! You have to admit that Wences makes it look so easy. But then, that's years of experience for you. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Not that I'm on crack, but it was fun to have a car that you don't need to worry about.
It did, however, make me feel like a crack-head to drive a total roach like this, so the resto plan slooooowly started to materialize.
If you look real close, you can see how it was in a nasty front-ender back in the day.
It was fixed, but definitely not right.
And, since it's a black car.... It's going to have to be straighter than straight if it's gonna be shiny....

I read back on page one for shits and giggles. The man called it. All of this anal retentive & crack joking was predicted.
I cant in good judgement, pick on you too much anymore. I will, but not in good judgement.
Next beer is on me.

Nice!
It was about 1997, and I was working for PG&E inspecting power lines.
Was doing the circuit that fed the place, and walked up.
The car was sitting in the spot right in front of the red/white bus there.
It stopped me in my tracks.
A black/red early sunroof Fastback... Something I had only imagined existed.
Took me a few years to pry it off the owner.
The guys at Peninsula eventually gave me his number to keep me from bugging them.
If only I had known what it would do to my life.. _________________ Bus Motor Build
