|
|
Stupid Question . . . maybe. Bought a Thing to keep my herd company. Disassembling engine compartment for painting and I am uncertain how the tail light connectors disconnect and I do not want to break them. Do the individual wires pull out and if so, which end or both. Or do the connectors split apart as a unit, Any information or hints from experience would be appreciated. Thanks. |

If you are talking about the big flat 4 pin connectors in the engine compartment then, each wire finishes off with a standard slip connection. The plastic connector has male ends. Try and pull from the terminal and not the wire. Wires may be brittle. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Yes the Flat four and now it all makes sense as the only way to remove the harness from the tunnel would be for each wire to be disconnected individually. Thanks for making it all evident to the novice |

Each wire can be removed from the 4 flat plastic piece without cutting the wire ends. The female spade end is on the taillight. The male spade end is in the 4 flat plastic piece. Take a small sunglass screwdriver and push the retainer back to get the wire to release from the flat plastic. |

Which side do I put the screw driver in...the wire loom side or the side going to the tail light? |

You need to use a very small screwdriver, like one for glasses. The male spade connector is locked in the plastic piece. The spade connectors have spring locks to hold them in place in the plastic piece. This pic shows how the lock part works....you have to have it pushed down and pull the connector out of the plastic at the same time.
Pic shows female spade but the locked one is male IIRC. I used that pic because it has the arrow pointing to the lock. |
