Does anyone know whether the front trunk release lever in the glove box for a '68 Ghia coupé is the same as that for a 60's beetle? Help please.

Thanks for looking in. My best friend - passed away last month or I would have asked him - had a '68 beetle and my vague memory is that the lever was in the glove box. Also in my first beetle, manufactured in 1970.

Kiwi,
Full disclosure, I've never owned a beetle.
By 68 things really started changing. Someone else will chime in from experience.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It must have been great fun to have someone to share VW's with.

You're so right. We were students and spent our time according to the one-third rule. One-third to attending classes and studying; one-third to play tennis, and one-third to chase girls, with having the beetle at our disposal a definite advantage over our competitors. We were successful only in the first two, unfortunately, but the love for Dr Porsche's quirky little car has endured.

The "front hood control knob" in this 1967 beetle operator's manual is quite different from the lever in my 68 ghia

Thanks for the info. I think '68 was the model year when a lot of things changed.

Yes, the front hood/trunk release lever for '68-'74 ghias is a '68+ beetle part as evidenced by the 111-prefix on the part number:

Thanks for that. I've been following your posts elsewhere. You keep the new guys like me informed and happy. Mine is the RHD thus a 112 number.

This thread is now closed, I think.
