|
|
I'm heading to South Africa on business for the month of February and was hoping to find some Ghia parts while over there. I know they built their own VW beetles there from the 60s to the end of the 70s, and I suspect that there is a strong following with regard to air-cooled cars over there
I would like some direction to a 1776 rebuilt engine (complete) mated if possible to a 5-speed gearbox. And any small Ghia items I can use in the restoration of my '68 RHD Ghia coupé.
I'll be in Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town for a week in each starting 4 Febr.
Show me what you've got, please. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I found a guy on the Samba who knew a boneyard in South Africa with three RHD ghias in it. One was a '66 the dash of which I managed to take for my '66 RHD conversion.
The bone yard is called Van Den Brink Motors. In late 2008 they still had 2 RHD wrecks in their salvage yard. The others there were a '67 and a '64. Maybe you can contact them to find out if the cars are still there and if he is willing to cut stuff out for you. His telephone number is +2711 708 1297 or [email protected]
I have photos of the other cars somewhere and can search those out if you want them.

Hi Nicholas
I remember seeing your thread and finding the vandenbrink email address there. I intend to pay them a visit if they are still in business and still have ghia parts. Thanks for responding. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

Well if you get there, and have the motivation to cut out those RHD dashes remaining, I'd be happy to buy them off you to cover your efforts. I know guys here in Oz who'd love to have them.
