Just as the title says my steering wheel has side to side play-not up and down. I did a search but wasn't able to find an answer. I think it is a plastic bushing? Would it be the same part # as a beetle (what year?) 73 Thing thank you!

Part Number 171419549 for a 1974 at least. Google the part number for different sources.
Download the parts listing located in the Technical section. Quite helpful. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

I disassembled the upper part of the column today. Pulled the steering wheel, and the cone shaped part that holds the turn signal-this piece tightens to the column with an allen screw. I think this piece may have been loose causing the play. I discovered that the top bearing is bad and am going to replace the part that I posted above (this part was originally metal the one I bought is plastic). The part shown above from airhead parts is a bearing stop I think-meaning that it stops the top bearing and associated parts from sliding down the steering shaft-although I haven't confirmed this. |

Can someone show me a picture or explain where in the column this goes? It fell out and I cannot seem to figure it out I know it fits somewhere near the turn signal switch-would greatly appreciate it thank you. |

it's either a contact for the turn signal there are two per direction or it could be the switch for the high beams also on the turn signal side.
If it was on the wiper side, it's either speed 1, 2, part, or the typically blocked off intermittent position (down)
I'm guessing from the looks it's half of the high beam switch. _________________ '74 Thing [Fritz]
