I'm feeling a particular freedom. Business is sold, husband retired, but still tying up loose ends (some responsibilities for the building repairs with new owner) I took off to spend some time with kids in LA. Wanting to be available but not in their guest room or driveway, I'm exploring.
My van is perfect for this. Camping on my brothers land by lake isabella, into sequoias today, hills, rivers, rocks, orange groves. Nights snuggled in westy, days cruising and sightseeing. Wonder if I'll get homesick? |

When we were both finally retired we sold the house, put everything in storage and left in the Westy with no particular destination in mind. For a full year we followed the good weather and whatever whim we felt at the moment, hard to get homesick when you have no home.
We finally settled on and settled in an area near Tucson -- but it was hard to adjust to 4 walls and a never-changing view after 12 months and 24,000 miles in the Vanagon.
Hope you enjoy your new-found freedom. |

It only gets better now. Other half retired last summer, spent the rest on those loose ends, shows. Now if & when the north pole goes home an add on air is to be installed(4 her comfort at times) and gonna just take off 'somewhere',short-wk ones then look at longer ones. enjoy. |

Congrats Debbie! I have always enjoyed reading your contemplative and dreamy posts. They always seem to make me want to reply one way or another. This one for sure!
Your plan for the future is the reason we bought our van. When the day comes we hope to chase the good weather around the continent.
Last spring we discussed selling the house, storing the "stuff" and taking off for a year. That idea flew like a bag of snakes so it's back to seasonal trips. It's all good!
Enjoy every minute!

I've been retired from career job over ten years now (but still working on house and rigs). Overall it's been great and I can't imagine going back now.
A couple hitting the road in a westy for a while is a great way to settle in on an essentially and potentially new life.
Main thing many people have trouble with is disassociating their persona from the job. No kidding. A lot of people identify their existence and ego with their job.
If people don't have anything going on outside of job ... keep working |

I enjoyed the same, just did it in my 20s with my first Syncro Westy.
Yes, enjoy. |

Well, heading toward home tomorrow. Been a good trip, and so nice to have my own space wherever I was. It's a good van.
Overnight in a rv park with big rigs
Smile!

What an utterly wonderful picture! And so nice to see someone who knows what the Van is all about.
I wish you many long years more of delirious happiness.

Thanks! Got home this afternoon. Nice trip, from start to finish.
These RV parks are not camping, just a safe spot to spend the night on the road.
Next trip...wilderness |
