Is there a fuel delivery difference between the 40 HP pump and a 1500/1600 pump? I have a couple of pumps which I assume are 40 HP..(They are definitely not 36 HP) that have the screw in fuel inlet line.

I tore down and am rebuilding a 1600 SP and the pump on it is a new Brazilian pump. I wanted to have a spare on my trip this upcoming summer. The old Piersburg pumps I referenced above would require rebuilding so I want to make sure that they would deliver enough fuel if I were to use them.

Thanks
Chris

I'm guessing you mean fuel pressure or fuel amount per stroke?

Pressure - No.
Fuel delivery amount - Not as far as I know.

1500s used the screw-in line too.
This is just a year-to-year change. (1966 change to the new style pump)

Type 3s do have a higher pressure pump.
This was accomplished through the use of a thicker gauge wire on the diaphragm spring.

Everett,

Thanks for the clarification. I was not thinking about pressure but fuel delivery.

I just did not want to rebuild a pump that would not support the 1600s fuel requirement when it was developed for a 40 HP.

The only hard part with running one style and having a spare of a different style is going to be fuel line attachment.

Much appreciated.

Chris

Most pumps will deliver enough fuel to supply a 2000cc motor with duel Weber 44idf at sustained wide open throttle.... Seriously doubt you will have any problem with volume....
